This is a beautiful lake inside is the Cotacachi volcano, here is possible to hiking around for almost 4 or 5 hours depends how fast you are. Now it's a bit cold, but still is possible to see the lake if you are lucky one native guy could you explain better what do you have to visit there. I recommend 100%

My husband and I live in the area and never miss a chance to take visitors to this amazing and unspoiled view of a volcanic lake. A boat ride around the lake lasts over half and half and costs around three dollars (just be sure to bring a jacket..it's cool on the water). A complimentary hot beverage with a shot... More

What can i say...if you're in the area you have to see this. Its about a 20min taxi ride from Otavalo. We didnt ask the taxi driver to stay and started the hike round the lake. The views are absolutely stunning. The hike itself has steep uphills and steps in parts but plenty of benches at viewpoints to take a... More

Amazing 5-6 hour hike around the lake along the crater of the extinct volcano. Nobody will tell you, but the trail comes out to a road and then the signage doesn't indicate where to go!! You take a left and hike down the road through beautiful scenery (but infrequent-but-whizzing traffic with passing a little too close to comfort for pedestrians).... More

It is a beautiful lake with the islands in the middle but it is really small. I had hoped to be able to spend half a day there but after one hour I was ready to leave. I enjoyed the boat ride although it was too short. I appreciated the fact that they allowed me to go alone for the... More

We were unsure about how to 'do' this hike. The trail can be done counter-clockwise from the park entrance or clockwise from a non-marked point further up the road a few kilometers. Either way, it has steep sections of stairs up and down. There is probably less elevation gain from the clockwise direction. Well-maintained trail, great views, beautiful flowers, interesting... I'm only telling what some people who we talked to on the hike told us. Their taxi driver had dropped them at the far end of the lake past where the restaurant and boat dock is, and then they walked by around to the visitors center from there. It seems like a good idea, if you don't have time, or... More

The views from the walk around the lake are stunning. Two warnings though. 1)Make sure you go on a sunny morning to get the full impact of the view, it clouds over in the afternoon. 2) This is not an easy walk, there are some steep sections and you start at 3000 m. going up to 3400 m. So if... More

Delightful centre with stunning views over the lake. We did not take any of the walks but they looked terrific.

Beauiful lake, even in the rainy season. We took a boat ride and ate at the inn. Very nice. The trail arond the lake starts at the visitor's center, a short walk up the road from the in. You take a set of stone steps to the top for a spectacular view. Then you are on the trail (the "sacred... More
