Bring your coat , or buy one at the little market nearby. It is chilly on the water! Take the 15-20 minute boat tour for a touch of excitement (when you feel like the driver is going to dump you over) and for the beautiful scenery of the caldera. The tour guide gives information about the volcanic lake in Spanish... More

This lake is one of thhe landmarks in Ecuador. There are boats which wil take you across the lake. It's a great experience. You can also take a walk along the trails and take great pictures on the way. A worthwhile experience when visiting Ecuador.

Delightful lunch of fresh trout and salad at Restaurant Mirador overlooking the lake. A very quiet setting.

Visiting Cuicocha Lake is a must do while in the Otavalo area. This lake is absolutely stunning. You are able to hike around the lake if you plan ahead. I lived in Otavalo for over a year, so my suggestion is to get on the local bus and go to Quiroga (25 cents) get off the bus and ask a... More

We turned up at the laguna thinking that we would take a little walk to the mirador and then go back to town. It was that beautiful that we ended up walking the entire 18km round. My advice: Tell your collectivo / taxi driver when you plan to return to town! Not having your return trip booked will mean that... More

This is a must see "tourist" thing to do if you are in or near Cotacachi. You can visit the museum, which is a little way up the road from the waterfront hotel. You can also wait for the scheduled boat rides to get a better view of the islands or you can hike the rim (takes about 4 hours,... More

The lake/crater is beautiful but we weren't able to take the boat ride. Too few boats running for the amount of people waiting. Poorly managed. But beautiful.

The hike around the lake takes several hours but it is worth every step. The natural setting of the extinct volcano lake is breathtaking everywhere you look, prepare to be wowed.

We took a camuńeta up to the lake and went in the back side, despite the fact that you aren't technically supposed to. The path is clear and you get great fews of both the iridescent lake and the surrounding mountains. It took about 4 hours for us to circumnavigate the lake, however you can choose to do just a...
