best scenic hike to date in my life

We went with a guide from Runa Travel but you could probably do on your own. Took us 4 hours with stops and we did 3/4 of loop. Safe, beautiful.

We loved hiking the trial around the lake. We have a 9 and 11 year old, so we were not able to complete the whole route. Need 4-5 hours to make that happen. But, nonetheless, beauty spot. Simply hire a taxi / ask your hotel for a driver to take you out / wait. $35 U.S. Took us there, and... More

Getting public transportation here is extremely easy just ask at your hotel no need to book a expensive tour. If you have the option try to go on a clear day, we never got to see the top of the volcano while we were there. It is still extremely beautiful though! There is a trail that goes all the way... it was a family trip to the ecuadorian highlands, the challenge was to walk around the border of the crater of the ancient volcano where now there is a beautiful lake with 2 little islands in the center. the landscape is beautiful in both sides: to the lake and to the valleys. the trek took us 5 hours and the... If you happen to be arund this place, vist this Laguna definetely. If you are staying in Otavalo, take a bus from main bus terminal to Quiroga village, jump off right till central plaza. When you are on central plaza, take a taxi to Cuicocha (4USD). Taxi driver will probably take you to Hostal Cuicocha, form there you can take... More

This little park was a surprise on our four day central highlands tour through Columbus Travel. The silly thing was the closed bathrooms and no one around in the nice little museum. Still a nice, if poorly organized tourist attraction. Without our guide we would not have appreciated this as much.

The drive up from Cotacachi itself is great. Inside the visitor's center is a great full relief map of the park and surrounding area, which gives a great perspective on the height of the mountains. We walked (slowly, short of breath) up the trail as far as the administrative offices and saw a couple of lizards and pretty birds. The... More

Like everywhere in this part of Ecuador, there are beautiful views here. For very little money, you can get a boat ride around the lake to get a closer look at the birds and the volcanic underwater geysers that bubble the water. We saw it as part of a whole day tour with Runa Tupari, a native travel guide service.
