Went to the laguna as part of a mountain bike tour organised with one of the agents in Otavalo. Great view of the lake and great ride. I did not try the boat tour since it was pretty cold on that day.

We started the hike at the Los Pinos trail and hiked clockwise. We did it in 4.5 hours with a few stops for photos and lunch. It gets a bit monotonous after an hour. I wouldn't go out of my way to hike it. We much preferred hiking Fuya Fuya at Lake Mojanda. We went by ourselves. A guide is... More

Ever wondered what a lake in a volcano looks like? Well this one is for you! Gorgeous lake with two islands inhabited by guinea-pigs! The lake has very little other wildlife due to its isolation and has no fish due to the warm water. A very pleasant boat ride will show you areas where the bubbles from the active volcano... More

There is a nice hike all the way around the lake. It takes about 4 hours to hike the whole thing. There is a also a resturant overlooking the lake and boat tours. A pleasant place to hang out for an afternoon. The drive out there is also interesting and good views of the surrounding volcanos.

The area around this is so lush and green. The little museum was very informative. I would go again and take friends!

There's a great trail that winds around the lagoon, with awesome views, even through the fog. The trail is well maintained and easy to follow. Especially welcome were benches at look out points...on some Ecuadorean trails it's hard to even find a good rock to sit on. As always when hiking at altitude, take water and sunscreen and be prepared... More

For just a few bucks, we took a short boat tour around the laguna, and received a (Spanish language) explanation of the history, geology, plant life and animals in this unique place. Upon returning to the docks, we were offered a hot tea & liquor to warm us up. Lots of fun!

A strenuous 4 to 5 hour hike around a crater filled lake that contains 2 large islands. Unfortunately, the trail doesn't completely circumnavigate the lake and about 2 miles of it must be done at the shoulder of a paved road.

I visited this Laguna as part of a day tour to Otavalo. It was a bit of an after thought and nothing more than just a view. Apparently there are lots of guinea pigs living on the islands in the middle of the lake.
