We chose Saturday the 17th July 2011 to discover the natural beauty of this UNESCO world heritage. Somehow we got there a bit late at 4PM, so our options were a bit limited ( needed to choose a route appr. 4 hour long). We enterred the park through Entrance N°2, bought daily tickets as the only option, scanned the routes...

We parked at entrance 1, crossed over the road via a bridge and purchased our tickets. We opted for walk B, 2-3hrs duration. We followed the signs directing which way to go and first sight was a stunning waterfall. The colour of the surrounding waters was beautiful, at times turquoise, at others crystal clear so you could see all the...

The lakes are so beautiful! We did the shorter hike which should take 2-3 hours but we did it in under 2 hours, so if you have the time do the longer one! The only downside is there are alot of big groups and if you get stuck behind them it can be hard to get around. Also i think...

I took the walking path of "K." It was nice and secluded for a good portion of the walk. This was especially nice, because some sections of the trail intersected with other trails that had large groups that made it difficult to pass. The terrain was varied. From the Entrance 2, I did the lower lakes loop in the afternoon and then upper lakes, the next morning I did the upper lakes loop again. My recommendation is that if you arrive the park past noon, do the upper lakes first instead. And then if you stay overnight, do the lower lakes with the big waterfall. This way...

Plitvice Lakes National Park is well worth a visit. It has a lot of visitors and can be crowded. We hiked around all the lakes, and it is worth the time it takes.

We hired a guide from central Zagreb, stopped at Rastoke - amazing village with scenic views before heading to Plitvice National Park via town roads. On our way we came across buildings with scars from the 1991 civil war, storks nests on lamp posts, hovering hawks, roadside stalls selling cheese and fresh apple juice and not forgetting the scenic life...

We spent 3 days hiking around Plitvice Lakes. What a wonderful example of nature! Everywhere one looks, there are waterfalls. I've never seen anything like it before. We hiked around the lower lakes one day, the upper lakes another and some of the trails up above too. The park is done so well, with the wooden paths that fit into...

We did program C (5-6 hours) which is really excellent. It is important to arrive as soon as possible (park is opened at 7am) to avoid package tourists
