OK, it's hot and sweaty, but if you want the panorama experience and beautiful plants, need to do the climb and walk up to the fortress. It's the classic island fortress Croatian tourist experience, but this is Hvar, so do it.

Frequented by night resellers this fortress has a great view but is smelly and badly maintained. Good walk for except isle and view though

It was a 15 minute walk from Hvar Harbour. If you have time to wander up to take some great photos of the spectacular view, do so. Some of my best photos of Hvar were taken from the fortress.

A walk up attraction (but I suppose you could also get a taxi) Clearly visible from main Hvar quay area, an obvious thing to go for, except for the elderly / frail Route, entirely off-road and easy to follow, but not at all obvious to start; we had to ask at the tourist office Quite a effort, do not attempt... Nice walk to the top and nice view from the top. It was a problem that it was not possible to pay the entrance fee in Euros or with a credit card.

The walk up is through some pretty gardens and the views just keep getting better and better. (don't forget your water) The fortress is pretty standard, there is a restaurant to grab lunch at. The dungeon was my favorite part!

The castle is merely a ruin with nothing special to see or do, not even a respectable place to eat. The views over the city, the bay and the countryside are wonderful and it is worth a short stop if you have a rental car. If you are climbing up on foot, there are better ways to expend your energy... More

A long walk up a fairly steep hill, but the views alone were worth it. Wonderful to see the Paklini Islands in the distance, postcard perfect colours, magical. The fortress is worth looking around and has a small museum too. Café facilities are also available.
