Just the walk and see the fortress was great. The view is spectacular! And the history, including seeing the prison, was worth the long climb to the top.

One of the most historic attractions in Hvar is Fortica, Hvar's guardian. I can't even imagine it being used at the time it was built to protect Hvar but also to show it's power and greatness that we admire today. A 20 min walk up the hill on a sunny day can be tiring so choose the right time of... More

We rented a little car, and drove around the island, and of course we ended the day with a trip to the fortress. It is similar to a lot of european fortresses however this one did have a jail inside it, which was really cool. The view of the harbour is amazing, and we got there just as the sun... More

The Fortress is worth a visit more so for the view than anything else. You get a stunning view of the harbour. There is a little cafe at the top which is much needed after a bit of a walk in the heat! It would've been useful to have some more info on the the fortress itself to read if... More

After a meandering walk up the fort, we thought that it was just a ruin and we were going just for the views. However, it is in fact a museum, only 30 Kuna (£3) and you can look at prison and different platforms.

It's a stiffish climb up from the harbour - about 150 rather steep steps, then a long, winding pathway to the top - but the rewards are some fantastic views of the city and the islands, and a really interesting historic fortress which gives some insight into the turbulent history of Croatia. It's only 30 kuna - say, 4 Euros... More

Quite a long walk up to the fort in the heat but it was worth it for the views alone. A small entrance fee allows you to enter the fortress and wander around taking in the great views of Hvar Town and surrounding islands. The small prison is worth seeing too. Not somewhere to spend too long but worth making... More

Easy access from the main square but some steep stairs initially followed by a winding path to the fortress. The cost of 30 kuna was reasonable & the views are excellent of the township & surrounding areas.

Great view, fantastic camera opportunities. It was well worth the climb of 1000 steps on a rainy Hvar morning

The fortress has an interesting history, and the views of the town and the harbor are spectacular. It's a short walk from the marina, up a picturesque walkway through the town, then an easy switchback trail to the top. The entrance to the fortress is behind the hill. There is a small charge for admission but very much worth it!!... More
