This was a nice site on the river. A few steps that might be hard for some. This is very similar to other sites we have seen. So if you have seen one you might not need to see another.

This set of caves is isolates and does not get many visitors. On the drive there you will se other caves which are not yet open for tourists. Most stop at the flaming mountain and don't go further on their tour. IF you are reading this, you are probably going to to go to Mogdao in Domhuang to see the... More

As the other reviews mention, this is a collection of about six caves. There used to be a collection of amazing Buddhist murals here. Used to be...most of them are heavily defaced, either by idiots with hammers or western archeologists. Whole sections have been removed to museums in Berlin and London. To amplify the problem, they have built a fake... More

There is quite a bit to see here, and an opportunity to walk along the water. But it is HOT, so get there as early as possible. The buddha drawings, unlike much of Turpan, looks like the real, original deal (very cool).

Getting to the caves through the flaming mountains, the location in the valley, and the setting of the caves, make me give a good rating for this attraction. Only about 6-7 caves are open, the paintings in the caves themselves are pretty limited, and not really very impressive in terms of preservation. The old Uyghur folk sitting around and playing... I am amazed to read below how people are not prepared to visit some places and do not have a clue. These caves are not renovated, they are extremely old. The work that was done was to build a facade to reduce access and stop the negative effects of the environment. Not as nice as you might see elsewhere including... More

I think one of the things I do like about this place is its setting. Very scenic location. The art works on the walls are cool but not well protected. I guess they are trying to bring all back to life, one thing that anoys me is the building of all the mythic stuff right next to this place of... More

This is extensively renovated and doesn't really have much to see. All looks very new and what is old isn't very well looked after. Not worth a visit.

Worthbthenside trip. A,real isolated set of Buddhist caves that we're on the main section of the silk roadmtomturpan and Urumqi. A beautiful river is lush with trees and unbelievably a clear stream. The caves have been desecrated many times over but are stilly worth a look. The original panels were stolen for archaeology in thenearlymC20th, and then further defaced pouring... More
