Now I know how some of my favorite snacks are created. This was a great opportunity to tag along on a school visit. Learned a lot about the quality that goes into a great potato chip. This put things into a new light to see first hand the process that goes in creating the snacks that I grew up eating.

We had planned to do a tour and drove to Birmingham to the plant. Then the guard tells us they closed down the tours because the Board of Directors were visiting. That doesn't seem like "Customer Satisfaction" to me! If you plan to visit, call ahead.

I had never been to a chip tour before, once you are checked in at the guard shack, you have to wait in your car for them to come and get you. The 930am tour is the less crowded one. On the sheet the guard gives you will have the rules on same. Nice movie then the walking tour. Was... More

Elementary schools frequent this area to go on a tour of the plant. The kids really enjoy themselves.

A fun quirky free adventure if you are travelling on I-65. Beware the tours are on limited times and days. The warm chips from the factory were fantastic. Stay away from the Jalapeno Cheese Puffs, though. Security was tough, be sure to stop in at the guard shack.

I happened to have an extra day to spend in Birmingham and looked on TA for things to do. The Golden Flake tour stood out as something fun to do and something I hadn't done since elementary school. They only offer tours on Mon-Wed and at 9:00, 11:00 and 12:30. I showed up for the 11:00 tour but it was... More

Only 3 tour times mon-wed. We were signed in at the gate. No jewelry, no cell phones, no cameras, no purses. Hairnets and beard nets are given out as well as fresh hot chips off the line and individual bags of different varieties. Staff is so friendly; our tour guide had worked for Golden Flakes for 40 years. A must... More

We had some time to kill before a late afternoon flight, and the Golden Flake factory is not very far from the airport. Plus, we had never been to a potato chip factory. The tours are only offered Mon-Wed (as of October, 2012); 3 times a day. The whole tour lasts less than one hour. First, there is a film... More

We were in the Birmingham evacuating from Hurricane Issac. Took the tour to use up idle time. Very interesting. Don't wear shorts below the knee. Closed in toe shoes are required. You must remove all jewelry except rings.
