The market in Luoyang's old town is really nice. Not as loud as the one in Xi'an and not filled with the typical tourist shops. In fact I spent 3 hours there and didn't see a single other westerner. We absolutely loved the Old Town part of Luoyang. We spent a good 2-3 hours there just walking, shopping, eating and seeing the locals. Our family spent 3 hours wandering around the old town streets. This along with Longmen Grotto and Shaolin was the highlight of our week long trip throughout China. Most folk stop in the ancient city of Luoyang to marvel at the magnificence of the Buddhist Longmen Grottos,or to commence a journey to Shaolin Mountain and then move on.
