Although a few vehicles appear to have access, West Street is largely a pedestrian precinct with shops, restaurants, stalls and language schools. We spent most of a day there, escorted by our hotelier, who owns a bistro in the precinct. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. We were warned about pickpockets, but came across nothing in that line ourselves.

I have been here 8 years ago and I was really surprised by the change. It's totally touristic and everything is more expensive compared to other part of town. Maybe more suitable for younger people as there are many clubs for drinking and clubbing. Lots of restaurants at every corner. Only busy during the night. Beware of pickpocket.

This place is a good indicator of just how much Chinese society has changed recently. A charming old street now jammed with vendors peddling the usual disposable stuff and with thousands of eager modern consumers. Sit down and watch the crowd. It is fascinating.

It all happens here. If you do not like crowds, bargaining, being pushed and shoved, then avoid West Street. But then you will also miss out on an almost unique experience. Do it in the evening when the masses will push you along, soak up the atmosphere, sounds and smells. Do it late morning before the ferry hordes arrive when... More

This street is the most chaotic place I've ever been. I'm glad my hotel was not close to this street, as is crowded (almost stuffed) with people and street sellers every evening and throughout the night. Drones sounding like 2nd WW bombs fly around and green lasers are pointed out over people's head. Problem is, that if you are tall,... More

The street is a buzz with tourists and of course the locals are out to get your money lots of restaurants and many shops selling the same items it has a great atmosphere but after two days of it that's enough. Get out of town and ride a bike nice countryside to see than just west street

Fun for a dinner and quick stroll but we didn't linger here. Some good restaurants but that's about all. If you like crowds and neon lights you may enjoy it though...
