Unless one is physically fit and plan to spend more than one night on the mountain, walk down either the north or south trail (I did north since it looks easier), then take the XiHai rail car up. The Xihai railcar does not go all the way to the bottom of the mountain. It essentially just serves the Great Canyon.... More

Its a really scenic place and it has some very (very) interesting steps. So you really (really) need some decent walking shoes and bottled water. The views are spectacular and worthwhile getting a decent map so you can cover most of the better scenery in one day. The next day you will need a rest!

We stayed in Huangshan 2 nights and 3 days. We had bad luck with the weather. It was raining everyday and the fog was so thick that we could see almost nothing far. But we were glad that we decided to go to Xihai Grand Canyon on the last day. The landscape along the trail was beautiful. The pine trees... More

Xihai fantastic from so many places, but not for faint hearted or people scared of heights as the path stairs are often located on the side of cliffs.

We, 2 families with kids (8, 9 and 11) started from the Beihai Hotel and walked for ab out 1.5 hours through the canyon and same way back. We did not get as far as the monorail, rather stayed up on the mountain. It is an amazing hike with stunning views. It was not an "easy" walk, but well doable... More

It is very beautiful, and best of all, there are no tour groups there!!! Lots of downhill stairs and amazing viewpoints. Once you get to the bottom, I recommend taking the tram back to the top or suffering a miserable death trying to ascend out of the treacherously steep canyon.

We are seasoned hikers, but this was challenging even for us. The stairs are steep, and cling to the side of the mountain. I am not in any way afraid of heights, but there were times looking down the stairs, that I found myself hanging on to the rail for dear life. There seems to be nothing between you and... More

Footpathes and staircases attached to the rocks with nothing underneath you for several hundred meters ... just breathtaking and a little frightening as well
