It's pretty magical climbing to the precipice and up the sandy dunes. The views are worth it. Climb it in winter as it must be sweltering in summer!!

nice place for a relaxing afternoon in scenic surroundings. you can walk up to a ridgetop to watch sunset. Unfortunately the place is overrun by visitors and overregulated by the park rangers. There is a entrance fee

Beautiful piece of nature, a real dream to visit. My only negative was that mother nature decided to blow a sand storm on the afternoon we visited the area, this stopped us from enjoying the views fully. Otherwise picture perfect.

Visit the "Valle de La Luma" is an incredible experience due to the exquisite views of the big dunes and the blue sky. The walk is short and is worth going all way to the top to take pictures. Bring your best camera!

This is definitely a place that everyone must see when they visit San Pedro de Atacama! I wish I had more time to walk around or bike around because I didn't have enough time with the tour company. It was a beautiful place to watch the sunset! I highly recommend seeing this place!

Go early for a good sunset-watching spot. The place is swarmed with tour buses so it can get very rowdy during the evenings. That said, the sunsets here are spectacular (and possibly one of the best I've seen on my 6-month trip in South America). The spot where most tourists go to watch the sunset is a steep 5-minutes climb... More

I was expecting this to be a lot like death valley in the states but it was quite different. I went on an afternoon tour which ended with us watching the sunset. I went on a tour (can't remember the company name, but I think they're all pretty much the same) where we were told some of the geological history... More

Beautiful landscapes and other worldly feel. Definitely worth the trek outside San Pedro, during the day but also at sunset. The colors of the sky reflected on the surrounding mountains are gorgeous.

I cannot express the solitude found at this place. You will find yourself in a place with no sound, absolutely no sound, and no jet contrails overhead, ever. Our tour guide was excellent. A walk through a boundless desert? Sure. But worth every bit of sand you have to dump out of your shoes afterwards.

We visited as part of a trip booked by imagine latin America. The trip included lots of stops to different parts of the valley and includes a short walk. The views at sunset are amazing. It would be quite easy to do this trip alone if you have a car or bike
