The garden opened in 1938 to preserve part of the remaining Atlantic coastal forest, and it functions as a research facility focusing on Brazilian flora and fauna. The garden also shelters the source of the Rio Ipiranga, which figures heavily into national patriotic lore. « less

It's obviously not in the centre of Sao Paulo and so the taxi ride takes about 30 mins and so you need to take that cost into account. There might be buses to get you there, but we didn't explore that option as we were carrying big cameras. I'm not an expert on botanic gardens or flowers or plants, but... More

I visited the park on a lazy Sunday with my boyfriend. It was VERY hot and humid, so the shade of the trees and numerous drinking water fountains were perfect. The Botanical Garden itself is nice and has pretty paths through it. The part that caught my attention was the bit that allows you to walk into the rainforest. Yes,... More

The botanical gardens of São Paulo are often overlooked as people may think it is a dump. I found it quite the opposite when I visite it last weekend with my 10 y.o. daughter. The gardens are very well maintained, the nympheas were blooming on the lakes which resembled a lot Monet's paintings and I found at the back of... More

Take a full day the garden is 66 acres ! by the front gates you can sign up for a golf-cart train type tour for free. it goes every couple of hours, and although we walked for ourselves we still found the tour useful as they explained ( in the languages of the people on the tour) what the various... If you have free time stop by the Jardim Botanico. It's very nice. However, more tourist than I would like for a tranquil experience. More

Few people know the place but it is probably the nicest forestry area close to the city. Short drive from to the Subway (Conceicao Station). A must go, for Paulistanos, Brazilians and Foreigners. More

The botanical garden is a very large park where you can go for a picnic, some photographic exercises (or even to take some pictures of the several plants and flowers there), or just to read a good book in the quiet of the place. More
