The garden opened in 1938 to preserve part of the remaining Atlantic coastal forest, and it functions as a research facility focusing on Brazilian flora and fauna. The garden also shelters the source of the Rio Ipiranga, which figures heavily into national patriotic lore. « less

Considering its location in a seemingly endless urban wasteland, this botanical garden is quite magical. You'd best arrive as early as possible if you want to see any birds, as the crowds start pouring in for picnics from 1030 onwards. The birder who pre-studies his calls will record the longest list, as many species are tantalizingly close but just out... More

It is one of the few parks in town where you do not listen to the sound of cars. If you go up the stairs and stay near the Lake of the Nymphs or the Spring Trail you will enjoy the sound of nature (ok, sometimes interrupted by a plane), but no sound of cars. You may also listen to... More

The Botanical Garden is located on the south side of St. Paul. Nice place with self-service restaurant. Good place to make picnic too. It seems that is out of Sao Paulo so quiet. Very good place to meditate, relax and enjoy nature.

A lovely place to visit and difficult to believe, once away from the road, that you are in the centre of one of the World's largest cities. More than 1200 plant species and lakes, streams and wild monkeys. Great for a picnic. One of the greenhouses is being restored so was closed on this visit.

the visit to the botanical garden can be combined with the visit to the zoo because it is located in the same neighbourhood. There is a greenhouse with beautiful orchids.

Very calm and nice place to spend some good hours with family and friends... There is a lot of space to picnic and some historical landscapes that really worth a visit. It costs R$ 5 (adults), R$ 2,5 (senior and kids over 6 y´o) and young kids are free.

If you want a quiet place to rest, and enjoy the nature, it is an excellent option. Not so crowded as other parks in the city, it provides a better atmosphere. To be improved: more guides and guards would be welcome...
