The garden opened in 1938 to preserve part of the remaining Atlantic coastal forest, and it functions as a research facility focusing on Brazilian flora and fauna. The garden also shelters the source of the Rio Ipiranga, which figures heavily into national patriotic lore. « less

Spend here a lovely morning with my parents. Easy walking, quiet and green. Lots of different plants/tree and therefore insects. There was a lot of movement above the water, Unfortunately the walk through the trees was closed, we are curious to explore this path too !

Went just once with my girlfriend but spent 3 hours in a relaxing park environment which basically isn't something you'd expect in Sao Paulo. Not as much a botanical park as you'd get in the rest of the world, as just a park!

I was there on July 30, 2014. It is extremely nice, there is a lot of shade and you can enjoy it even in sunny weather. Many chairs can be used or even lie on the green grass. About 1200 species of plants and many birds and animals. This garden is one of the most beautiful places I have ever... More

There are very interesting species of plants and some art pieces. The space is very well used, you actually forget you're in a major city. Access was very easy from subway station "Saúde" and took us... More

The botanical garden is located very southern part of the city. Although we live in the southern part of the city as well, it took a long time to reach the garden. We visited in September (spring), so didn't get to see much of the colorful flowers in bloom. A large pond with water lillies and bamboo walks, and micro... More

Inside the megalopolis of Sao Paulo exists a remaing area of the atlantic forest (mata atlantica) with wild life. The botanical gardens are situated inside this area. During my visit, I was able to see two type of monkeys Seguis and Bugios (dont forget binocolars!). Other wildlife also exists, even sloths! There is a trail going into the forest, which... More

Lots of green gardens with a water pond. Nice for a walk in the nature and just relax seeing different kinds of plants and flowers. There is a restaurant buffet style that can complete your day at this place.
