It's hard to find a zoo that creates a completely natural habitat for its animals, and the São Paulo Zoo is no exception. Still, staff try to provide a decent home for the more than 3,000 animals in their care, including local luminaries such as the Brazilian howler monkey and the red-breasted toucan. Tue-Sun 9am-5pm

Don't go to this Zoo if you are expecting a zoo like the San Diego Zoo or Sidney Zoo. Most of it's animals are from the brazilian fauna (even though it has some african/asian animals). Also, try to get in early as the queue to enter it can become quite long.

Sao Paulo Zoo is a very big place. It has a wide variety of animals from all over the world. The condition of the zoo is average, you can tell it's been around for some time and I think it needs some kind of remodelling. The animal enclosures varied a lot, some had the space needed, others were too small.... More

Lots of very interesting animals such as caracals, araçais and an anaconda but they all had very small cages and seem very bored. The African animals (giraffe, zebra, rhino etc.) were the only animals who really didn't seem to care because their space was rather big compared to the other cages.

there are better zoos in the world, but this one has the tropical setting as well as being a big enough space for a diversion when the seemingly endless city starts to wear on you.

As a South African, knowing how big our parks are and how important space is to animals, I found this zoo really sad. The animals look depressed and they keep on walking in circles. There are 5 giraffes in one small camp! I found more about the African animals than the Brazilian animals. I was disappointed in the management of... More

A big place to walk about, very beautiful to see, a lot of trees, the animals taken very good care. This week end a very amuse surprise: the Dino's (dinosaurs) were there, in a place very well placed for them, all the atmosphere apropriate. My advice: GO!

The zoo is pretty simple to get to by Metro and then transfer on the Zoo Bus to the entrance. The bus only runs once or twice an hour, so you must pay attention to your watch. There were quite a few animals that one rarely sees, like a white tiger, Inidan Rhino, Asian Elephants. There is quite a collection... More

The zoo is huge and kids can have fun for hours, interesting as well the entry is free for children up to 5! IThe parc is nice and clean, it has different launchettes to eat or buy water but you can as well bring your picnic. There is a beautiful lake with monkey islands and birds and it's a nice... More

By international standards better than we had expected. Needless to say some of the cages and pens were on the small side and many animals showed repetitive behaviour. However in general we felt they were well looked after and well-fed. The grounds were clean, tidy and a pleasure to walk through. There is plenty of room to get about and... More
