SP is full of such culture--the Pinacoteca is one of the examples of this. Beautifully open, the gallery is the perfect setting for incredible pieces of art. You'll find Rodin's work amongst the many sculptures here.
The building is wonderful--open, light, a re-make on an old one. It does not have much of a permanent collection so you'll need to see what is visiting at the moment. Also they are marginal on English translations so if you don't speak Portuguese, bring a dictionary.
Pinacoteca is Sao Paulo's place for visual arts with focus on Brazilian modern/contemporary art (from late 19th century on). It holds around 30 temporary exhibitions every year, which in my view is the best quality of the museum. So, check the website for the temporary exhibitions (http://www.pinacoteca.org.br/pinacoteca-en/). The museum is owned by the state government and prices are very affordable...

Besides a very contemporary museum, close to Jardins area, the restaurant inside offers a very cool mood and interesting food. Surely worth the visit.
Got in free with my ticket crom the Museum of Sacred art. Thought the way the building has been adapted is inspirational. The art, particularly the sculptures were great. Enjoyed the restaurant on the ground floor as well.
The building is very beautiful, with an amazing architecture! It helds many displays with different artists. The restaurant is in an open area, in the middle of a nice park - Parque da Luz
A nice place to spend an hour, but not a pinacoteca after European standards, as may have been expected from many of the reviews here. It would be good to show more art with motives from Brazil.
If you are a Arts and a Literature lover, you must know this place. It has a rich and amazing part of Brazilian art and it's very very cheap or free in some special days. The building is beautiful, old style, and around the museum you can go for a walking in Parque da Luz, another amazing place to visit....
