Major stop in Florianopolis, everything you want to see in one place

Its has food, trinkets, and all the stuff a tourist would want to buy including cheap shoes. The best part was looking at all the different fruits, fish and seafood on display.

It's pretty organized and clean. But apart from eating, there's not much else to do. It's small and the the shops do not sell anything out of the ordinary. Next to it there's an old building which offers some of the local handcrafts. However, it looks terrible from the outside and there are no signs saying what it actually is.... More

Downtown in the center of the colonial section of the city, the public market is an active commercial center, not really a tourist attraction. The market has clothing stalls and well as all sorts of hardware, appliance stalls but the main attraction are the seafood stalls. Although shrimp is the main attraction, shoppers can find all sorts of local fish... More

It is a typical place to visit if you go to Florianópolis. You find seafood everywhere and the atmosphere of the place is vey charming. The construction is very beautiful and it is nice also to eat seafood after being around the place.

We have been robbed near by the Municipal Market in central Florianopolis. We have parked our car in the parking place and our luggage was in the car boot. When we went back to the car, it was open and they took our luggage. We were left with nothing else than the clothes we were wearing. Police, rent a car... More

Very good selection of seafood. Loved the beaches and bars outside the city. The beaches were not for the weak, lots of waves and surf. Enjoyed touring the Island and staying at Prai do Armacao, which had more natives than tourists.

Usually a city's public market is to feature local stuff, like food, goodies, local art and so on. But while there is typical food (and fresh seafood) available, with occasional local art, on a general thought it is not like a typical public market as we see on most of the cities around the world. The downside is that the... More

I loved Florianopolis...it´s beaches, it´s beira mar, and I liked downtown too. But the historic district has no charm at all...shineless, boring...avoid it! The public market it´s even worst: there are a few, very few stores related with sea products or food. T- shirts and fake tennis shoes rule the market. A couple(just a pair) of lanchonetes (less of a... More
