Walking around after the Carnival was interesting as most people were still asleep at 11 AM. Walked up to St Teresa area, loved that! Lots of colored buildings, dogs everywhere and finally people awaking. The Arches were discovered on our way down. It was neat just to see it.

Lapa's Arches are just some large arches on which a trolley rides and which are sometimes lit up with colors, making for a good photo op, especially one which includes the nearby Sao Sebastiao Cathedral. Sometimes, there are live music shows in front of the arches and food stalls line the main street going through them. It isn't the safest... More

Absolutely stinking, dangerous, terrible part of town. Druggies, homeless people, prostitutes. The arches are dirty, and utterly pointless to visit. Didn't feel safe there so we turned on our heels and headed back up to Santa Teresa. Didn't take out my camera - but then why would I want to??

I was expecting something else. They are not bad but the most remarkable thing to tell about them ... it´s its size, apart from that you don´t miss anything if don´t get the chance to see them.

The arches of Lapa are very pretty, and I visited in the middle of a bright sunny day. When I arrived there was a police van with around six officers, so I figured it would be safe. I took my camera out, and took a number of photos, before tucking it all away again. I then wandered around for a... More

Went there today with my boyfriend and what a surprise - two young men approached me with a knife and stole my camera in daylight on the pavement that goes along the main road which connects the Arches with the metropolitan cathedral. We spent the whole afternoon at tourist police and there were 3 German girls who have been robbed... More

You can enjoy the daily life's type of the downtown in Rio. The Arches of Lapa would give you a nice photo shoot!

We went on a Saturday night to Carioca da Gema and saw two amazing samba bands. The entertainment starts around 9 or 9:30 and the place is packed quickly. Well worth the admission fee and drink prices are very reasonable. Eat elsewhere before you go as you will just want to dance! The arches are a nearby landmark but nothing... More

We were there on a Saturday night as it was the place to go, my husband was robbed from behind for his necklace. We just thought it was a busy bar area and this happens. The next day we walked past a policeman at 10.00am and I was attacked by three youths. THey were trying to grab my necklace which... More
