If you are in Rio only for two days, you have to include this in your trip. It's a popular spot to watch the sunset. Right when the sun goes down, everyone starts clapping. It's fun to do with friends and also very romantic. It's a good mix of tourists and locals and its such a peaceful event.

This is the best beach spot in Rio. If you go during the day, walk uphill and will be surprised to be far and away from the city and enjoying the seagulls, the rocks, the salty winds... with just a 5 minutes walk. At night you can join the corwds watching the moon emerging from the sea, in a relatively... More

One cannot leave Rio without watching the sun set or rise from Arpoador... Although it is often crowded, it remains spectacular,

I think it was the only place in Copacabana and Ipanema beaches where the beach it's very clear! I only went there at night and it was beautiful, I can't imagine it on daylight.

Everyone gathers here at sunset to sit on the rocks and watch the sunset go down. Make sure you do this on a clear day so that you can actually see the sunset but it was really beautiful.

Well worth the walk and scramble up the grassy paths ( go early to get a good spot! ) Brilliant atmosphere, music and drinks flowing. Stunning view of Leblon/ Ipanema beach and its surfers. A must whilst in Rio - especially if you're looking to wind down after a busy day.

Really nice beach, with good surf and Brazil's perfect sun. Should drink a coconut water and a mate. A should go while in Rio.

Very close to Ipanema beach. From here you can have a great view of the skyline of Ipanema beach. There are some restaurants, but I did not try them. There a big rocks here where you go to and sit down to watch the sunsets. You can watch people playing ball on Ipanema beach. Would be a great date event.

And also a great place to watch surfers! Grab a fresh coconut and sit on the rock to enjoy the view. Great to watch the sunset as well!

I can see why this is a favourite spot for many. I agree that it would have been a fantastic spot to see a sunset. Unfortunately it was very cloudy the day we visited so even though the Sun did Set that day it was not to be seen on that day.

Staying in Ipanema

Neighborhood Profile
Ipanema
Ipanema is considered Rio's crown jewel. It offers the best view of the sunset from Arpoador and is inspiration for the legendary song, “The Girl from Ipanema.” Ipanema is an upscale area, home to many high-end restaurants and luxury shops, many of which can be found on the charming Garcia d'Ávila Avenue. The neighbourhood is very rich culturally, housing many art galleries that show contemporary art. There is also a great variety of nightlife in the neighbourhood, which buzzes with many options for every taste.
