Here one can learn about BraziIian history from the arrival of the first European sailors to the modern era, all from a military perspective. There is a museum, an exhibition hall, and the fort itself to visit room by room. You can also climb up to the top of the fort for panoramic views of the bay. Not to be... More

So I was just walking along the beach of Copacabana and I spotted this area where a lot of people are sitting while looking at the whole strip of Copacabana beach, as I head towards the area, I realized that I was heading to a Military Fort that also happened to be a Museum, I ask the friendly military personnel... By some of the reviews I read I was expecting a great place. It was nice the only thing is it's not very well labelled. Yes I know It's not an English speaking country but for all of the English everyone around spoke we were surprized at how it was Portuguese only. We must have picked the wrong restaurant because... For those who like to see old canons, old weapons, plus a history museum, in a beautiful European manicured setting, this place was surprisingly great for Copacabana, where little seems to be manicured to this extent. Great for men, women and boys, I think!

Very cheap to enter at $R6. Lovely leafy avenue leading up to the various areas and museum rooms to learn the history of Brazil ending with the giant cannon situated at then end with the tunnels of the arsenal. Fabulous views of Copacabana from all areas. Walking back from the cannons on a cobbled road towards the welcoming restaurant we... More

If you are in Rio, for business or pleasure, do not miss this attraction. It is inexpensive ( US$ 2 1/2) and has a fantastic view. You can also have a drink, breakfast or a quick meal enjoying the scenery . And it is there, very close to everything, at a walking distance from the hotels

This historic fort is ideally located at the south end of Copacabana beach, in Arpoadar, on a promontory jutting into the bay. There is a small entry fee to tour the fort, where inside the history is outlined (but only in Portuguese) and some rooms on display, but the main reason to visit are for the unique views from this... This fort represents an important Brazilian historical place, but for me it is worth because of the amazing view to the sea and to the Copacabana beach. It is one of the places to go in Rio.
