We did it on our own: we took the bus to Angra, and then walked to the harbor to catch the boat over to Ilha Grande. Certainly worth the visit! We tried to do it on ONE DAY, and you definitely need more time.

We were a couple visiting Ilha Grande and took O Verde tours for a couple of days - the Adrenaline Tour and the Pure Nature tour.
We had a great time overall - our guides were very friendly and enthusiastic and clearly enjoyed what they were doing! We hiked and snorkelled a ton. My wife was even able to spot...

We took an all-day excursion to Ilha Grande from our hotel in Rio. It was 140 reais per person and well worth it for the bus trip and boat ride to 3 islands off the coast of Angra, including Ilha Grande.
Ilha Grande is an amazing place, with beauty that is unmatched. Very romantic for couples, and fun for families...

A short bus and boat trip away, lies Ilha Grande. An island just off the coast of Brazil with pristine beaches and crystal clear blue waters. There are many quality hostels/hotels scattered throughout the island, all at affordable prices- and most staff speak fluent English. It is quite touristy in that there are many agencies that offer taxi services to...

Beautiful beaches - go only to those other side of the island remoted from Angra such as Lopez beach. Recommend to stay at Biergarten Hostel if you are looking for good value for money and nice atmosphere.

I did not believe such a place with so unspoiled beauty could exist so close to a huge city like Rio. Ilha Grande deserves at least 3 days of stay and is a rustic setting without luxury, perfect for those seeking tranquility, contact with nature, treking, romance or all of them together. There are good tracks, some of them leading...

I am a big fan of Brazil. I love Rio de Janeiro and I frequently travel in other areas of Brazil as well.
Let me tell you a little bit about Ilha Grande. The island is located south west of Rio de Janeiro. A 2 hours drive and one and a half hour by boat and you suddenly find yourself...

I stayed in this 'pousada' with my husband in Dec/2007, and we both loved it. The breakfast was great, staff very good, hotel very cozy, and location was awesome! On our balcony there was a cozy bench where we could sit and watch the parrots/birds in the forest. Great view of the rain forest. Quiet place, but few minutes from...
