This is a nice day trip from Rio. Easily accessible. Very safe. And, it is home to the Portuguese crown jewels in the summer residence. Our Brazilian friends love coming here. We thought it was nice, but one trip is probably enough.

The trip up into the surrounding hills was a great start. The very humble and well kept palace shows a part of Brazilian history one does not expect. The pride the Brazilians is shown in their care of this structure.

Petropolis is an amazing mix of European architecture and style, mixed with Brazilian culture and living. The views on the drive from Rio are breathtaking and the city and historic districts are unbelievable. Anybody traveling to Rio should take a day trip here, or even better spend a night, you won't regret it.

If you have time to spare, I'd recommend this day trip to Petropolis for a change of pace and scenery. The town is nested in the mountain range approx 120km inland from Rio. The history of the town is quite interesting as well as architecture. Some nice palaces to visit in the town. The ride there and back also very... More

The town is beutifully set in the hills and is very attractive. It is also home to the Palace of the Brazilian Emperors whose crowns are still there. It was very busy when we were there on a Sunday and the drive back to Rio was hellish. Parking was very difficult but the town is pretty and full of attractive... More

It is a cute city and it takes guts to be able to ride the main road that gives access to the city due to its dangerous curves and steep slops. But once you get there it is all worth it. The climate is good and people are very friendly. local restaurants in this city are usually cleaner and some... More
