The old royal summer palace with exhibition about the royal family, and a nice 9 hole golf course that have to be one of the oldest in Brazil.

Petrópolis, the city of Pedro, the emperor of Brazil until 1889, was built in and around his majesty's farm. It houses the Emperor's summer retreat with an extraordinary array of objects of that time. The city is worth visiting just because of this "humble" summer palace. But the city has more to offer, not only in beautiful landscapes and period... More

The drive from Rio to Petropolis is far and very bumpy and windy Its not worth the drive in my opinion but the views of the rain forest is spectacular The royal family home is cool and so is the town

We enjoyed visiting Petropolis because of its history. The musuem was interesting - although be prepared to almost skate through it, as you need to wear booties over your shoes to help protect the original floors. Crossing the river that runs through the center of town was fun. The cathedral was lovely. Had a great light lunch at the Brew... More

Love the imperial palace, the city is actually relatively large and the traffic is bad. The imperial palace is worth visiting, as well as the nearby Church of St Peter of Alcantara

The street is just crazy, you dont run all shops in one day, hehehe. Aside that, going to the center of Petropolis, you find a well conserve Imperial city. Some locals told... More

Nice mansions from high society and Emperor D. Pedro II. Some other attractions such as the house of Santos Dumont and brewery. The problems are the lack of parking lot and good options of restaurants nearby.

Museu Imperial, Casa do Santos Dumont, a beautiful cathedral and pleasant architecture. This is Petropolis, a great day trip from Rio to know more about the history and customs of Brazil. The town also has a beautiful hotel called Quintandinha, which is an option if you want to stay overnight or even for a couple of days, since there are... More
