I have been in so many markets in so many countries, what on eath I could be excited about? well, I was wrong. The quality and divercity was such, that instead of half an hour we expected to spend, we been there for 2.5 hours. Even my husband liked it, and for him this is the almost impossible thing about... The Hippie market is a great way to spend a Sunday while in Rio. The first thing is to walk around the market for the first time seeing what is for sale and then you can make up your mind as to make up your mind as to what to buy. There are the usual souvenirs and locally made works... More

I found out about this market from someone who lived in Rio for a few months. If you like markets, this is a very good one. My only disappointment was in not being able to spend more time there. What makes this market stand out is the unique items you can purchase from the people who created them. They also... More

I love the Hippie Fair. Only open on Sundays but it has a lot to look at shopping wise. Great place for souvenir shopping and some more unique things and a little more expensive things for gifts.

Before arriving in Rio, my wife and I already knew about the Sunday hippie market in Ipanema's Praça General Osorio . So when Sunday morning came along we made a point to visit the market before lunch and spend some time browsing around. There are literally hundreds of vendors hawking all kinds of wares and trinkets out of makeshift stalls,... More

when you are in Rio this is a must - a must as much as Christ the Redeemer and the cable cars to Sugar Loaf mountain - this market is totally unique and a forever memory of having experienced something unique to the Ipanema area of Rio and who knows you just might find the "Girl from Ipanema" here or... What a fantastic way to spend a Sunday in Rio. So much to see and everything was slightly cheaper than in more tourist places. We went round and round so many times. And there are many shops and food places around the fair that we went to and then went back to the fair. A MUST DO if you are... More

The Hippie Market is open only on Sundays, and closes before dark. We enjoyed spending a couple hours just browsing through the stalls, and picking up a souvenir or two. Some of the items are unique and handcrafted by the stall owners, who truly enjoy talking about what they do - in Portuguese, of course. There are some food vendors... More

Note this is open from morning to 5pm. This is a nice way to spend a couple of hours on Sunday just looking through the knickknacks and picking some souvenirs or gifts for home but don't forget to barter. There's also a lot of similar items so make sure you do a cruise around the market before you start buying.... More
