Looking for presents to bring back home with you? This is the place to go! Lively, cheap and where you can also enjoy some North Easter food! The Hippie Fair is easy to get to; it only takes place on Sundays right outside metro General Osorio -Line 1- and it goes until 7 pm. Don't worry if you don't have... More

Located only a stones throw away from Ipanema Beach, the Hippy Market is the perfect place to spend a Sunday morning buying souvenirs. The central area is reserved for artists selling paintings and sculptures and many of them will be happy to chat away with you about how they made their art. The outer area is a labyrinth of clothes,... More

Our concierge at the hotel told us about this event, and IT WAS AWESOME. I think it's only on Sundays, but it is WELL worth going to see! By far the best crafts and goodies by local artists!

My Apartment was just around the corner from the square and having most Sundays off the Hippie Market was a real fun place to go and also very safe. You can buy almost anything in the tourist range of goods and also many locally made items. Trading is the name of the game so be prepared to haggle over price.... More

The Hippie Market is a very large market with just about everything from paintings to sculptures, food, clothing you name it. I found the prices to be reasonable, and sometimes the sellers will negotiate on price, especially if you want to buy more than one of an item. It is great fun! very lively and colorful!

This is such a nice market. They have a little bot of everything. Indigenous crafts, metal jewelry, leather goods, regional foods, art. It's open almost all day on Sundays, right by the metro stop for the beach.

We went to the Hippie Market at the end of a long walk around the lake so we were quite tired, but there was some good stalls to look around. There was some more odd stalls including outfits for Barbies and a man selling clothes for cats - with some cats modelling their very fashionable looks. There was some great... More

Went there sunday at lunchtime, there were some nice stuff and I bought some rings, but otherwise it's the same as you see on every market around the world. Touristic stuff - luckily the beach is 5 min walking from there, so you can 'escape' when it gets too warm.

This seems pretty obvious! However, don't even take a chance that it might rain - that's what we did and it was dismal! The stalls are not geared up for bad weather at all and rain dripped and poured from the makeshift plastic covers that they erected. We were only in Rio for one Sunday so could not visit again...
