Nice market. Very relaxed. The combination of local food, arts and craft and of course also some type of tourist trap but without the backlash ;) Been there a few times by now and can spend some hours there wandering around and stopping for food and drinks on the corners of the square.

The hippie market in Ipanema is a traditional place to be visited. Only one block from the beach, and taking place only on Sundays, the artisans, sculptors and painters sell their creations to all those who enjoy alternative and handmade products. One precious tip: if you have a local friend in Rio, ask him to negotiate prices for you. It... More

I have been in so many markets in so many countries, what on eath I could be excited about? well, I was wrong. The quality and divercity was such, that instead of half an hour we expected to spend, we been there for 2.5 hours. Even my husband liked it, and for him this is the almost impossible thing about... The Hippie market is a great way to spend a Sunday while in Rio. The first thing is to walk around the market for the first time seeing what is for sale and then you can make up your mind as to make up your mind as to what to buy. There are the usual souvenirs and locally made works... More

I found out about this market from someone who lived in Rio for a few months. If you like markets, this is a very good one. My only disappointment was in not being able to spend more time there. What makes this market stand out is the unique items you can purchase from the people who created them. They also... More

I love the Hippie Fair. Only open on Sundays but it has a lot to look at shopping wise. Great place for souvenir shopping and some more unique things and a little more expensive things for gifts.

Before arriving in Rio, my wife and I already knew about the Sunday hippie market in Ipanema's Praça General Osorio . So when Sunday morning came along we made a point to visit the market before lunch and spend some time browsing around. There are literally hundreds of vendors hawking all kinds of wares and trinkets out of makeshift stalls,... More

when you are in Rio this is a must - a must as much as Christ the Redeemer and the cable cars to Sugar Loaf mountain - this market is totally unique and a forever memory of having experienced something unique to the Ipanema area of Rio and who knows you just might find the "Girl from Ipanema" here or... What a fantastic way to spend a Sunday in Rio. So much to see and everything was slightly cheaper than in more tourist places. We went round and round so many times. And there are many shops and food places around the fair that we went to and then went back to the fair. A MUST DO if you are... More
