A very nice beach, this one in particular is quite messy at certain times of the day. Its narrower than the other beaches and so that attracts a more intense amount of people, however - Still stunning. The water here is calmer than the other beaches, but still can get quite choppy.

Quieter more upmarket beach around the corner from the tourist spot of Copacabana, all the kiosks sell great food & drink, clean.

Chai rentals and beautiful surf. Views to enjoy. Much activity, drink vendors and snacks. Heavily visited by locals and tourists. Beautiful people and fine white sand. A must see while visiting Rio.

Ipanema Beach, together with Leblon beach and Copacabana beach, is a major spot to visit and enjoy in Rio de Janeiro. Nice sand beach, rather cool water with some surf, and lots of young people basking in the sun. It gets crowded in weekends but quite calm in weekdays. It gatjers to a much younger crowd: in the streets nearby... More

Even though I've seen pictures and videos of this place before it is still with a particular emotion I've discovered it myself for the first time yesterday. The light there by the Atlantic Ocean is beautiful and the atmosphere is as serene as it gets.

This is a great beach to spend time while in Rio. The beach is divided in different "tribes" and you can see a flag in each point "posto" representing each "tribe", such as gays, family and so on. Of course, "tribes" get mixed up and you can visit all the points. If you want to be cool, if a man... More

The second of the famous Rio beaches, Ipanema has a younger crowd and wilder waves than the more sedate Copacabana. Great for people watching and cooling off in the Atlantic.
