Beautiful clean with less people on the day we visited than Copacabana. Beach starts with park designated to the girl from . Same set up with umbrellas and deck chairs with few people in the water. Many families and younger people on the beach.

Although we stayed and enjoyed Copacabana better than Ipanema, we came across less people in this last one, the beaches are also safer however we thought Copacabana was more fun.

Wonderful place to go and enjoy the beach as well as watching the incredible "fauna" while drinking cold coconut. At the beginning of the beach you can have a great view from the top of the rock.

If you are a surfer, don't come here looking for waves. This is a place for people to chill out- both in the waves and out. I loved the cleanliness and the beauty, as well as the fact that I could lay out in the water and practically sleep!

Actually both Copacabana and Ipanema are very busy if the weather is great, but if I have to choose I will go to Ipanema. For me it has a better landscape and nicer atmosphere.

The view is beautiful and the beach is amazing, just be careful with the little "gangs" made by kids. Don't take anything like jewelry or leave it on the sand while you're swimming. We had the bad experience that one of those kids stole from my friend's neck her necklace in the ocean.

Some of my fondest traveling memories are of this beach. It was just incredible and sooo cheap to entertain yourself. From your beach chair you can buy sunscreen, food, drinks, clothes, and more. People even come around offering foot massages for a couple of bunch and someone else comes around pouring cool water on your feet...just because. The whole experience... More

Ipanema beach is certainly better than Copacabana beach because it's feel safe and water is clearer. Also the mountain views is good and not so many tourists as Copacabana. Also feel safe to walk around the beach at evening.

Very clean and friendly people. everyone wears a bikini no matter what you look like. And no one really cares. Love the friendly umbrella and drink salesmen....better than Copacabana since it is cheaper and cleaner. cheaper as in 100 reais cheaper for umprellas and chairs. and the drink salesmen are way more attentive and faster than in Copacabana. However, there... More

We took the bus from our hotel in Copacabana. There seem to be more locals than tourists here. The water and sand were clean. It was a great swim! There are several stands where you can rent beach chairs and umbrellas. The ice tea, that guys sell on the beach in these metal containers with taps, was awesome!! Half ice... More
