Ipanema beach is a great beach with lots of people on it(during weekend at least). A great place to people watch, and find a spot on the beach for yourself. I did not lay out on the beach directly but just walked along the concrete boardwalk stopping and soaking it in along the way. I hear not to take valuables... More

My hotel was just between Copacabana and Ipanima beach. Both beautiful and very relaxed. Especially during the weekend when everybody in Rio seems to be there. (Without being crowded)

A very nice beach close to the Copacabana and for sure not less know. It is a bit cleaner than Copacabana and also a bit less crowded. You certainly can feel why the song "The girl from Ipanema" was written. You can buy food and drinks from people passing by as well as other stuff like hats and so on.... More

The beach was spotless. After every high tide or storm the debris, such as seaweed, was cleaned from the beach. Trash drums are about every twenty feet and the people use them. I never saw a piece of trash anywhere but in the drums.

By far my favourite beach in Rio. The sand is perfectly white and very clean. It is less pretentious than Copacabana and is in a much trendier area. You can get everything on the beach in Rio so I recommend the halloumi and the Caipiroskas.

Our favourite beach in Rio, waters clear, surf was up, sand was soft. Took the metro from Copacabana hired chairs and a parasol and settled down for a few hours, beach life in Rio wonderful way to spend a day.

Great beach. Lots of families around and the kids love the wave jumping and body surfing. Lots of vendors but not nearly as pushy or in your face as along Copacabana.

The beach itself was lovely to visit and less crowded than Copacabana. The sand is white and the sea is clear blue. It was very hot when we visited, so we did not stay too long, but it is definitely worth a trip here whilst staying in Rio. It is only a short walk to Copacabana, which we didn't realise,... More

We spent a couple of days soaking up the sun on Ipanema, and I loved every minute of it. While there were a lot of people there, there was still plenty of room to ourselves and everyone did their own thing around us. There are food vendors selling beer, juices, ice cream, caipirinhas, hot cheese, crackers, etc. You'll hear them... More

The longest, biggest and most crowded beach I have ever been to... the temperatures also make the sand burning and impossible to keep away from the water for long. But the atmosphere, the music the colorful people there, all unique experience that you need to enjoy for at least a few days. Also the place where you welcome the new... More
