This is a very nice beach...clean, small crowds and plenty of great photo opportunities. Enjoyed walking on the board walk.

Ipanema beach is beter than Copacabana, which by comparison looks 'tired". At Ipanema the beach is clean, the waves are strong and the crowd is pleasant. Lots of beachvolley, football and amazing footvolley. Well organized 'quarters' where you can get chairs, parasols, drinks and food. The neighborhood is up-market: many shops, restauarants, bars, etc in the two parallel streets to... More

We were in Rio for the World Cup, which meant during Brazil's winter. The beaches weren't very enjoyable because it was cold and windy. This beach is the safer than Copacabana and cleaner. It is a popular place to watch the sunset. Do not leave your stuff unattended and do not wear any jewelry!! My grandfather was wearing a gold... More

Loved the beach and very friendly people. I definitely recommend this beach, there is also an area near the end of the beach that has a rock formation with a nice peak to take pictures of the beach, Including an outdoor gym. I can't wait to go back.

woahhh!!what a looong beautiful beach. Loove it, it has such a great vibe, so surprised to see alot of people on the beach, swimming, playing volley, jogging no matter time and day of the week, as if they dont work or study, just chilling and having great time. Very clean, theres always a place to snack in every few meters.

If you like beaches you cant get much better than this. Golden sands, quieter and cheaper than Copacabana, yet still plenty of activity and food/drink sellers.

The beach as incredible, and wasn't as crowded as expected. Great place to relax after a hectic day in the marvelous city.

Can't miss this in Rio. Not as famous as Copacabana Beach, but huge crowds and loads of activity - beautiful bodies of all types, music, volleyball and too much to list. Restaurants also better than Copacabana Beach. Hang out at life guard Post 9. Eat by post 8.
