The Botanic Garden is my favorite spot in Rio, specially when it is very hot. Its shadowed routes and lots of water streams are very refreshing. Around there are nice restaurants (La Byciclette) and a small museum dedicated to our greatest composer, Tom Jobim.

This is a highlight of Rio. A walk through the gardens - whether or not you are interested in the very varied flowers, shrubs and trees - is a lovely experience and part of the magic or Rio. the avenue of imperial palms with the fountain cast in Derby is an unforgettable highlight.

Wonderful place, to spend a few hours or the whole day. Been there at least four times during my stay in Rio (I have been living there for over one year). If you plan to go there, take in account to stay a minimum of three hours, possibly five. Bring your own water and snack, since there is little option... More

We spent around two to three hours in this amazing place, mostly having a slow walk, investigating some unknown trees and even animals. Note: there are A LOT of small animals there, walking, jumping, eating, enjoying, even posing for the pictures. We've saw a lot of cute tamarins and capucins, some beautiful birds (including tucans!), a lizard... You need to... More

The Rio botanical gardens have an absolutely stunning element which, in our opinion, makes them one of the finest botanical gardens in the world. They have two long avenues running the full length of the gardens bordered by rows of magnificent, 30 metre high Imperial Palms, many planted well over a hundred years ago. The spectacle is remarkable, a real... More

After jeep tour of Tijuca Forest we finally had a chance to meet the plants and monkeys up close, on our own. Get a taxi to get there, walk around which is safe - don't miss Bromeliads and Orchids Greenhouses. If you are lucky you cam meet a family of monkeys that feed there in the late afternoon. Get a... This botanical garden in by far the best that I have been to. I thoroughly enjoyed the plant variety as well as how big the garden was- it made getting lost in the jungle easy. I forgot I was in a big city! Very accessible, and worth the very low price (less than $4 USD per person).

As Rio has many beautiful beaches but when is to warm or if you want to escape from it , do not hesitate and go to the botanical garden. The entrance fee is affordable (7 Real) and you can spend half day there. Lot of unique trees and if you are lucky you can see many animals as well.

Pleasant enough walk, with plenty to see. Very relaxing, but lacks variety in colour (at least at our time of the year - October). The turtles in the pond are nice to watch. Good buffet and shop, with information about the vegetation. worth the trip on a nice day, but not easy to get to other than taxi, or by... More
