Great place to hide from the sunlight under the shadow of the trees. The garden is massive and you can easily spend there more than 1 hours wondering through the different types of vegetation. Plenty fountains and lakes as well. You can also spot some colonial Brazilian houses. Great way to escape from the beach!

Much more than expected. All sorts of great exhibits, lovely waterfalls, and natural hillside backdrop. Visit the orchids and explosives factory ruins. On the upper path, we ended up right in the middle of an acrobatic troop of black capuchin monkeys. And, in the center of the park, we encountered a troop of marmosets who cooperatively posed for the camera.

Spent a wet Wednesday in the Garden and was amazed at how crowded it was - hundreds of people apparently just wandering around taking photographs of each other. Although clearly a haven from the bustle of Rio, it was not a particularly quiet place to be. There was a large selection of neotropical species of trees and shrubs, with variable... More

A nice and refreshing walk away from the beaches. Beautiful and well kept botanical garden, don't miss the orchid pavilion and the huge Amazonian water lilies

Only 9R per person to enter. The place is very big and can take a few hours to walk around. There are a couple of small cafes that do ice creams, drinks and pastries also. The garden is in different sections ie orchid sanctuary and rainforest area. We saw the huge fish and lily pads in the lake, sone small... More

Some of the highlights of our visit to this one included a. monkeys in the wild up close and personal; b. Some fantastic displays in the orchid area c. a couple of very picturesque spots. On the other side a. Some areas which have been allowed to fall into a barren state (the "rose garden" springs to mind); b. A... More

No it is not the fanciest bothanical garden of wonders you might have visited, but if you take your time and walk through the nature observing the trees, flowers and seeds, you certainly go back to the hotel with good memories of the place. There are a couple of buildings with selection of orchids and bromeliae, and a section uphill... More

Maybe it was because of the rain, but to me it looked a bit old and unkept. Also, January may not be the best time of year to visit the Jardim Botanico.

I am a nature lover so this was a highlight of my trip as it really is a fine garden and I have been to many botanical gardens around the world. Admission is very inexpensive and you can spend a short time or a few hours relaxing. Buses go right in front of the entrance and the restaurant was very... More
