This is a really magical botanical garden, and very big too. We spend a couple of hours walking through here. There are specific sections for Orchids, and medicinal plants, and herbs etc. There is an amazing water fountain in the middle of the park with a view of Christ The Redeemer in the background. There is also a beautiful little... More

If really want to get away from the craziness of the city, come here. From the outside, you would never know that a huge botanical garden is there. This place was huge. Make sure you carve out a chunk of the day if you want to get around the whole garden. There are so many sections to see. We were... More

After a long and very rewarding walk in the this splendid Jardim Botanico, I just wanted a cool beer instead of a meal. No problem: very friendly waitress who wasn't pushing anything and left me to relax. This is a place to return in Spring (Brazilian time) when the roses are blooming.

The park has a elvish forest feel from Lord of the Rings in some places. The rich vegetation is embellished with great disposition and placement, beautiful stones, arcs and layout. For only 6 BRL this is extremely good value and a nice break from the city diesel fumes. It's also romantic, family-friendly and has a nice educational value. You cannot... More

If you only have 2 or 3 days in Rio, leave this place for last. It´s not in the top 5 attractions in Rio, but it could be around the 10th, worth a visit for your fourth day. The best part are the wide dirt roads flanked by the tallest palm trees I´ve ever seen. The trees are the main... More

Have been to many Botanical Gardens around the world and this really is one of the very best. Stunning sections of indigenous/Brazilian trees, fauna, etc - there are sections where you can't quite believe that you are still in Rio! Excellent maps in English are given to you when you enter that show you exactly what is on offer and... More

Pleasant place to be, with magnificent trees and beautiful Orchids. Lovely and peaceful. We wee with a guide on the jeep tour and that made it even better.

We visited in winter and there was lots of greenery but very few flowers. Its a nice walk, but nothing really outstanding visually. The lake in the middle is nice, with the biggest lilly pads I have ever seen. Nice childrens area in the middle of the gardens. Saw some cute little monkeys running around. Could not get a photo... If you want to get out of the hustle and bustle of Rio, this is the place. Quiet with enjoyable pathways to explore. It was winter time when I went so possibly not a full representation but it was still a nice break from the noise and traffic. Very cheap entry fee too so ideal for people on a budget... More
