Lots of greenery, variety of plants, monkeys (few cute small ones on the trees) and birds ... Lovely cafe, with really slow service but good food and fresh juices and soups. It was raining initially so you got ht feel of the tropical plants, but when the in come out it was lovely, great view of the christo too,

If you are looking for a beautiful place away from the crowds, try the Botanical Gardens. There is a great little cafe too!

It's a lovely place to escape the beaches and city life of Rio. I'd heard mixed reviews from friends but was still interested to go exploring. It's cheap and cheeful, and is a great relaxing thing to do away from the beaches and the city life. Lots of beautiful plants and birdlife. Not too much information on hand so I'd... More

It's a lovely place to spend an evening. The botanical garden were founded in the 19th century as a science and research facility and they still try to emulate that atmosphere. There a lot of birds, and last time I went there I spot a couple of toucanos. For tourists I guess it's a nice choice if you have an... More

I’d been to Rio before and didn’t do the botanical gardens last time so was really keen to do it this time round. I’m so glad I did. They are lovely and I think great value for money. As a wildlife lover, I loved that there was so much to see in the gardens and it’s all contained within the... More

It was a short bike ride along Ipanema and out the canal to Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas and the gardens. Caution: Mind the crosswalks. Cars do not give way to bikes! I wish that there were guides available to help interpret the many kinds of trees and flora. A great experience if you want to tie it in with a... More

Created by the king D. Joao VI in 1808, the Rio's Botanical Garden (Jardim Botânico) is one of the most well administrated attractions in the city (federal administration). With thousands of Brazilian and exotic species, it is a nice park, plenty of walkways, dominated by tall palm trees, descendants of the very first one brought to Brazil by the king.... More

We loved this place, gorgeous landscaping, and a great getaway from the beach area. Something really different. The orchidarium is spectacular. The whole place is so peaceful, and absolutely great for photos!

Our beach vacation got rained out, and we chose to spend the day in the Jardim Botanico. It was beautiful - if somewhat muddy that day. Even though we were there in late fall/early winter, there were plenty of blooming plants. The cactus garden and the bamboo grove were especially interesting. We were also pleased to spot a variety of... More

Was a very nice way to spend a Sunday afternoon strolling in the park. I was a little disappointed the Orchid building was closed for renovations.
