Skipping Sugar Loaf Mountain (and the Christ Statue) is like skipping the Statue of Liberty or Empire State Bldg if you're a visitor to New York and the Eiffel Tower if you're in Paris. People are going to ask if you've been to Sugar Loaf Mountain and would look questioningly at you if you say you didn't go while you... more

When visiting Sugar Loaf there is a fantastic little beach known as Praia Vermelha (Red Beach) just near the bottom of Sugar Loaf. Much nicer than Copacabana or Ipanema. It is near the Military Base. The Cathedral is well worth having a look at. Another gem is Confeitaria Colombo. A fabulous restaurant that has been in Rio for nearly 100... more

Being a first time tourist to Brazil, I was really excited about it. The Statue of Christ the Redeemer is a "must see". Sugar loaf mountain on the other hand was abit dissappointing. I went there with no exceptions. Once I got to the top of the mountain, I excepted to see something more, don't know what, but I realized... more

Ride the cable cars up about an hour or two before sunset, grab a drink or two then enjoy spectacular views of Rio. You may have to jostle a bit to get the best photo opportunity (this is why you should make your way up an hour or two early). more

This place has the greatest views of Rio and one of best views in the world. The journey to the top itself is a rewarding experience. Best to go on your own by taxi on a day with a clear sky. Really NOT to be missed. more

We spent a few hours here, taking in the views and just relaxing (this was our first day in Rio and we were quite tired from an overnight flight). The scenery was gorgeous. We stayed from late afternoon until dark, and took some pretty unbelievable pictures. Someone was having a private reception at the top -- looked very nice. There... more

Great view!! There is a small nature area on top where you can walk around for 30 minutes or so. We saw some monkeys and enjoyed the view of the beaches from above. We were staying in Rio and just took a cab. Don't schedule a tour or pay to be shuttled via a tour bus here, just grab a... more

We made Sugar Loaf our first port of call on our trip to Rio, and what a wonderfull decision it was. The trip up on the cable car is just wonderful, once at the first station you get to see just how big the rock itself is. The second cable car is white knuckle all the way, but more than... more
