We went to Sugar Loaf on a Tuesday morning with our guide Daniel (see Daniel Cabral - Rio Private Tour Guide - he is #1!!). Going right in the morning is a good idea I think in order to beat the crowds. It is actually two cable car rides to get to the top of Sugar Loaf mountain. The first... More

Try climb it. Yes, you need a guide if you are not a trained climber. Yes, I ended up hanging in the roap. But, the view was nice. And, walking around on the top afterwards does give a good feel.

Awesome views from atop sugarloaf and a fun cable car ride up and down. Keep you eyes out for the little monkeys running around.

If the Cristo Redentor gives you a view from the above, the Sugar Loaf gives you a chance to see a panoramic image for Rio. The words cannot describe how beautiful and outstanding it is to be up there, viewing the amazing city of Rio, with a cup of beer in your hand. My advice is to visit the place... More

We stayed near Copacabana and decided to walk there, it was an easy walk, but took an hour. Coming back, took a meter taxi (plenty waiting outside), cost was $R15. We went during their low season, so no lines to buy tickets. There is one stop on the cable car, resist the urge to stop, continue to the final stop... More

go to sugar loaf because its one of the main tourist attractions in rio but you have to be lucky with weather and how busy it is. we had to queue for a very long time on a cloudy day and had much better views of the city from christ the redeemer and the two brothers mountains (which is free).

Walk around. Have an ice cream. See wild monkeys. Sugar Loaf Mountain is a great place to spend the afternoon.

The funicular ride up to the top was smooth as silk; there were great views from all sides, and there were shops at the top so you could get snacks and tourist stuff. The high end shop, however, was not open after about 4 pm so if someone wanted to shop or purchase, that option was not available.
