If you are not travelling on to see the rest of Brazil then seeing at least some rainforest, albeit in the middle of the big city, really is worth while. On top of that Tijuca is a very realxing and tranquil place. Definitely worth a trip.

If you have to ride with the tarp on the Jeep, skip this ride. You will stop at a couple of place for photo ops, but your time would be better spent at Christ the Redeemer or Sugar Loaf. A very nice area for a stroll in the nature, nice views of the beaches, the Sugar Leaf and the Cristo Rey. We made it in a jeep tour.

Rio can be overwhelming and it's nice to have a forest so near to enjoy and escape the city. There are nice hikes, waterfalls, views and a couple of restaurants to enjoy. Very rustic style though. You can do tours or explore on your own. Don't forget bug spray!

If you want to try something different from the tipical tourist, give yourself the opportunity to visit Tijuca National Park. Try to do it with a local on Sunday where you will meet local going with children to rest.
