We spent an afternoon at the farthest end of Prainha which was fairly empty. Very beautiful, huge waves, with a café overlooking the beach. There are some natural areas of shade at the back of the beach from large boulders.

Tranquil but beautiful beach - spoilt for choice in Rio but with Grumari this was the best. Surfing, body boarding and great eye candy.

The type of beach you would like if you don't want to be among too many people (especially in a high season)

Lovely little cove beach, quiet, overseen by tropical forests. Good waters for surfing beginners (although look out for rip tides). Two bar shacks at the top, and a pleasant fish grill cafe at the end (a little pricey, and the food may be a little overdone, but enjoy the views with cold beers!)

One of the most beautiful beaches of Rio. Great waves and a nive hiking uphill. Go early in the morning cause the beach is closes when packed!

Prainha is almost a private beach, a place for trend people, they also have a nudist beach if you are interesting one. Enjoy, it's absolutely beautiful.

This beach is one of the best in Rio. It feels wild and secluded, but at the same time has 2 vendors, umbrella and chair rental, showers, public restrooms and some vendors selling food and popsicle on the beach. There's also a restaurant at the end of the beach, on the way to Grumari. I went there on a week... More

Prainha, though packed at weekends, is one of the choices if you are tired of the Copacabana-Ipanema kind of beachs and would like a more quiet and natural beach... You'll have to drive all the way west of Rio's west zone, which on bad traffic days could take up to 3 hours, but it is well worth it.

It's far away and there is a lot of traffic to get there. Not much place to park. Wouldn't go alone nor in the afternoon, so you would come back late.

The beach is beautiful and relatively small - and very popular with surfers. If you go on a nice weekend be there early (before 8:30) or you'll find no parking spot (you need a car to get there). Once there make sure you visit the nature preserve (opens at 8) on the other side of the street and go up... More
