We enjoyed the beach as it hardly has any tourists and local vendors to hound you..just local surfers. Go here if you want to just enjoy the scene and chill. The drive to Prainha was also wonderful and view is fantastic

Get up early in the morning so you can find a parking spot and see the sun rising at the amazing beach!

Ok place, but far away. Bus ride not worth it, and parking very difficult. If you are a surfer go with friends as lifeguards not always on duty.

Take the small road from Recreio to Prainha, going west from Rio. You will find extraordinary scenic views. Prainha is the best point for those adicted to surfing. If you are not, take a look, anyway. It is a safe place during the daytime.

Very nice beach but very strong waves. Do not swim unless you are a really top notch ocean swimmer. Very strong currents.

It´s pretty for away from Rio´s center, but if have you time you should definitely check it out. We weren there during the week, and beach was beautiful and the waves great for surfing. It´s a small paradise.

Ok, so You've spent a few minutes on Copacabana or Ipanema. Now grab a cab and go to Prainha. This place is amazing. A bit secluded, surrounded by steep mountain hills and not very crowded. Prainha can easily compete with the finest beaches in the Caribbean or Thailand and has its own very special touch. Very popular with surfers and... More

Prainha is a great beach if you thing is surfing. Great waves, but you can just go to relax and enjoy the atmosphere and view, and it will be worth it :)

We spent an afternoon at the farthest end of Prainha which was fairly empty. Very beautiful, huge waves, with a café overlooking the beach. There are some natural areas of shade at the back of the beach from large boulders.
