If you wake up early and want to enjoy nature, this beach is the best one. Reclusive, far from the most crowded beaches, if you get there before 8am you can park without stress, can enjoy the beach with some surfers. On the down side you won't find that many places to buy food and drinks, the sea is a... More

a hidden gem for the tourists, but not for the locals, since it is a good one hour drive from Ipanema. But once there, you will understand why the great things in life, may be a little far or hidden. Surrounded by mountains on 3 sides, and the ocean in the horizon, with pristine waters, great local foods served by... More

If you are going to Rio you should visit this beach, you can rent a umbrella and some chairs for 25 reais, they have food, beers, in their menu, the water is quiet but is kinda deep, Beach is clean and when you are at the road down there landscape is amazing,

If you're looking for a secluded, non polluted beach in Rio, or close to the South Zone of Rio, then this is it: Grumari or Prainha as it's called is pure heaven. ENJOY LOVE Gerald

At the far end of Recerieo you will find this beautiful beach. You have to drive by the Protected Jungle Area along beach avenue. Leave the hustle and bustle of Copacabana. It is about one hour drive from Rio so it depends on you.

Grumari Beach is place where you should go to relax a little and to escape from the packed beaches from Ipanema and Copacabana. Although it is not as empty as it used to be, during the week it is still really peaceful

Far away from the center of Rio, it should be more than 1 hour and a half away from Ipanema by car. During the weekends it can get very crowded, specially for parking. Therefore, I suggest going to beach very early, where you can have most of the beach to yourself. Its a beautiful place.

This was a beautiful beach tucked away behind mountains. It's a great location to escape the city but beware of rush hour traffic on your way home. It's horrendous!

We traveled with family who live in the area to Grumari Beach. It is a beautiful spot. Be prepared to bring your own drinks and food although there are restaurants nearby you can go if you don't have any with you. We bargained with the parking lot attendant to get the price down. Try the acai! It was delicious!
