Fabulous.

Get out of town for a day. If you can, hire a private guide. The beaches, scenery and restaurants are good.

We were brought here by our guide one afternoon as we asked if we could see a different side of Rio. The approach is through parks and woodland which makes it special. We spent a couple of hours here for a late lunch and a drink and thoroughly enjoyed it. Traffic going back to Rio was heavy but we felt... More

Grumari is located in the same nature resort as Prainha, a bit further away from Rio. It is smaller and more inviting for swimmer, especially on the far end. We spent few nice hours there swimming and enjoying the sun. There are a couple of bars, one serving food, but we didn't visit them. Instead went for lunch to a... More

Grumari is perhaps the best preserved beach in Rio with an easy access, though it's a bit far from the tradicional touristic areas. The vastitude of clean white sand contrasts beautifully with the emerald green sea, forming a pleasant portrait. Just watch for children, as it is a steep beach and waves hit strongly. I suggest taking some water/softdrinks/snacks with... More

Its a about a 40 min taxi ride (on the weekend without rush hour!) from Rio. The beach there is less crowded than copacapana and has some beautiful nature around it. If you got some spare time definitely worth a trip. I paid 120 Real one way. Might be worth arranging for a return taxi as there won't be any... More

There is no infrastracture around, only a couple of small bars, far away from hip crowds of Ipanema and the tourists of Copacabana. Really nice place surrounded by forests. I liked it a lot. However, it's important to go there early, otherwise you will not find a free spot to park your car.

We met some Brazilians and they took us to Grumari beach. It was pretty far from Copacabana, but it was worth the ride of more than one hour. Grumari is just awesome, a beach that is hardley explored, very quiet on a weeksday. Great waves as well for some body surfing. You should check it out.

To be reached by car. Beautiful bay, nice restaurants with wonderful view. Next to national park. Quiet beaches. Good place to surf.

Just another of Rio's world-class beaches. There is no development here as it's surrounded by parks. But they do have plenty of kiosks where you can get things to eat and drink.
