You will need a car to get here, but if you're in Rio and looking for a beautiful stretch of quiet beach not too far from where you're staying, this is the place. As a bonus, the water is a bit cleaner than Ipanema/Copacabana etc. There is also a great rustic seafood restaurant at the beginning of the beach.

I was expecting it to be more crowdy due to the world cup, a group of people I met at the hotel invited me on a scheduled drive and I gladly joined, this is my best day beach so far, very secluded.. quite and definitely worth the drive.

next to Prainha beach, and even further away from the bustling south zone beaches, Grumari is a very large beach that has great waves for surfers. the water in the furthest west part is more tranquil and so there it is better for families with children. I had one of the best Açaí's ever at Grumari...

it is amazing to be in such wild beach just so close to main hectic beaches of Rio. on the way, stop by Prainha, have some coconut water, go to Grumari, and finish the day eating at Restaurante do Bira… it will definitely be one of the best days of your trip to Rio.

This is by far one of the most beautiful beaches in Rio. If you are looking for crowded and noise places like Copacabana, you might not like this. This secluded beach is quite far from the city (you definitely need a car to get here) and maybe a local to guide you and not to get lost. Secluded, beautiful, high... More

This beach is gorgeous but unfortunately it was full of rubbish/litter and debris. Not nice swimming around with garbage.

Grumari is one of the best beaches in Rio. The only downside is the lack o parking slots. You have to arrive very early in the morning during the weekends.

If you're going to Prainha beach, you should go to Grumari which is the beach after. Wonderful place. It's far, but fantastic. I would recommend going with other people as it can be quite deserted.

fact #1 - beautiful beach fact #2 - don't forget money... you'll need it for beach chair and umbrellas and why not for a couple of beers fact #3 - on summer... go early in the morning... really.. I meant... otherwise there is no place to parking.

Great beach for surfers -go early on weekends. gets very crowded on weekends. beach is far away so take into consideration a long drive but it is worth it. far away from the crowd on weekdays.Enjoy the view !
