Water maybe freezing cold here but this is the most beautiful beach in the entire Rio state. The view, the music, the sand... Its all perfect
Barra Beach is very good when you live there. Just to come when you live in the center is not worth. But the beach is not very crowded (as others) and you have the same landscape as everywhere.
Porto da Barra Beach is located in the city of Salvador, Brazil. The water is calm and The heart of Brazil's third-largest city. And in a country with over 7,000 km of east-facing coastline. I like get lots of enjoyment in this beach.
We spent the last 1/4 of our vacation on the Beach of Barra de Tijuca. The first 1/4 of our vacation was spent on Ipamena Beach. We travelled in April 2013 which is considered low season. The temp every day was greater than 26 Celcius. We had little rain. If it did rain it was only for a short period.... More

Unless you´re staying in Barra there is little reason to visit the beach. Barra is a long way out of true Rio. There are no toilet/shower facilities as there are at Copa, Ipanema and now Flamengo , and the wandering vendors on the sand are few and far between.Open sea means the water is cleaner, like Ipanema.
The beach was not released for bathing. You should always check if the beach is free to bath due to pollution.
Barra neiborhood still keep expansion since 70's. It didn't increase nor stopped. Or even spoiled the 18 km of white amazing sand the beach has. If you are located at Barra you never would try other beach in Rio. That is the best. If you are asurfer, if want be with kids, if you want some social, if you want... More
Along with Recreio. MAny parts of it are not suitable for bathing because of sewage. But check the feema website for quality of water.
The beach is a good one, however not as great as Ipanema or Copacabana. If you have the time to go to Barra, go to a beach called Reserva instead, this beach separates Barra to Recreio beach and is BEAUTIFUL.
