If you plan to get the discounted tickets from the Urca park to go up Sugarloaf, don't waste you time as they have closed the booth and you can buy tickets only at the main station. But for those who just want a nice walk, the park/pathway is certainly worth it to see the breathtaking views of the Red beach... More

Urca is a small neighborhood at the foot of Morro da Urca amd Sugar Loaf Hill. It has only houses and less than five floor buildings: a former site for TV Tupi (television network in the 40's to 70's, which had excellent shows and, at the very beginning, in the 40's, it used to be a gambling site, when it... Enjoyed this secluded peninsula with a view of both. The Sugarloaf and Corcovado across the bay. Relatively quiet with private houses and a nice walk along a small beach.

Go there pretty early, enjoy the amazing and breathtaking view, and cable ride, you can see literally most of the beaches from there, be prepared to take nice pictures, because the spots there are un matched it is pretty organized too, very nice facilities.

Urca is .... well..... not really Rio, sort of aside from Rio, and so charming. Both the Belmonte and the Bar do Urca seem to attract people in from the rest of Zona Sul, but the other restaurants are worth a try as well.

This is the peninsula, where the Sugarloaf Mountain is. But at the foot of the mountain, there is a nice area of town that feels like a village with shaded streets. There is also a nice cove with a sandy beach on the other side, called Praia Vermilho.

Untouristed upper middle class neighbourhood, cut off from the main arteries that link Copacabana to the north. Walking or cycling along the almost empty seaside road is delightful, with amazing views of Corcovado and the Pao de Acucar. Rio de Janeiro from a different angle.

The urca is the first stop of the cable car up to sugarloaf mountain. This is an easy hike and the reward are nice views of the steep side of sugarloaf mountain but also the city and bay. In the late afternoon the setting sun lets sugarloaf mountain glow, very nice. To go up sugarloaf, though, one must by the... More

Good view to the Sugar Loaf, and also to Red Beach ("Praia Vermelha"). Some good and expensive restaurants near by. Good view also to Guanabara Bay.
