A sort of an "off the track" experiente in Rio. Worths the visit. Good food and music, handicrafts and a view of northeast traditions.

Far away, bad food and expensive. I'd never came back again. If you're looking for a "rio experience" this is not the place.

If you want to try something different when in Rio, this might be the place. A huge fair with a Brazilian North East theme (Feira Nordestina). Lots of food, music and stuff to buy (handcrafts). Come in the afternoon, enjoy the many souvernir stalls, have something to eat and finish off with live music and drinks until late at night.... More

Lots of food, music, crafts and interesting place to visit. We bought some cool hammocks there! The party starts every Friday and they are open 24 hours/day until Sunday.

Sao Christovão is a great market. Still authentic, still local and still loads of fun. I would recommend thursdays, friday or saturdays. Come late afternoon and browse around and enjoy the smells, the people and the various cultural happenings in the market. Before dinner, go to the cachaça (rum) store and sample a few free shots. Then eat and throw... More

For those longing to try typical NE Brasilian food, hear NE Brasilian music, or just plain find a lower cost alternative to the Ipanema Hippie Fair, this is a great place to look. With stages at each end, and room for dancing, the entertainment alone is worth the visit. Numerous restaurants priced reasonably. A few years back, a R$1 fee... More

I went here on a Friday at around 12pm. I was disappointed as it felt like a bit like Camden market in London, but not a 3rd as good. I was going there mainly to see Capoeira, and I didn't see any so was really disappointed, but I have since found out that this place really comes alive at night.... More

This place is not fancy or sophisticated. It is 98% locals, safe and great way to explore the working class Carioca culture. You probably wont buy anything, but there are lots of inexpensive foodstuffs, spices, etc. Listen to one of the bands, grab a meal and see how the locals spend a saturday afternoon. We took the metro to centro... More

It is a perfect example of an easygoing place, cheap and diverse: loads of fun for everyone. The friendly atmosphere and the good vibe reminds you that materialism is a big lie and that you can have great time with a few reais. Rio at its best.

This is a place to buy souvenirs. They have also few restaurants but the food I ate wasn't really great but that might have been cause we visited on Wed and there was barely anything open then. Best days to visit would be during the weekend. They also have some live music there then.
