Very professional guide with excellent knowledge, stunning fort and scenery. My wife and I caught the ferry over to niteroi from downtown Rio (praça 15) and then a bus which dropped us off at the last beach before the fort. We walked a further couple of KM after this so would recommend getting a taxi from niteroi to take you... More

Simply the best fortress in Brazil. They have guided tour, in Portuguese, and the the view is amazing. Also, the building is very well maintained. Very strongly recommended.

The view of the entrance to Guanabara Bay is really unforgettable! Sugar Loaf Mountain on one side, Santa Cruz Fortress on the other, the vast Atlantic Ocean, the constant wind, the sunshine on your head will altogether make this visit special . If you are visiting Rio de Janeiro, you must extend your visit to Niteroi and include Santa Cruz... More

This fortress is well worth the visit if you are in Rio. Parts of it are an operational military base, so photos are restricted to the "tourist" side. Views of Rio are excellent, and the fortress has many interesting points of interest, including the lighthouse, the jail, the chapel, and the artillery.

A trip to Fortaleza de Santa Cruz calls for the best part of the day if you really want to experience the area. I didn't read any reviews before I went and glad I didn't. It was a quick ferry ride to Charitas from Praca XV then we grabbed a taxi (17 reais). We did the tour which was done... More

It's free to visit the place and the navy ship is open for visit. It's interesting for those who have not been to any military site. There is a helicopter and some good souvenirs too.

Nice destination with great views. Unfortunately the guide only in Portuguese. I imagine the history to be interesting.

Fortaleza de Santa Cruz has beautiful views which (maybe) is worth the trip. But get ready for the boring guide (at least the one I had) who sped through the memorized explanation like no other. You are better off visiting Forte de Sao Luiz where the views are way better.
