I'm not a big beach person. I will be upfront about that. I like Lopes Mendes because you aren't tethered to the beach. Sure, you can sit on the soft, white sand and look at the scenery (if you pick up what I'm putting down), but you can also go for a hike in the rain forest or climb on... More

I`ve taken a boat from Abraão to Pouso (R$30 round trip), from where there`s a short hike (15-20min) to the beach. Walking all the way from Abrãao may take 2h each way. Unlike most of the beaches in the island, this is facing the sea, waves may be a bit bigger and currents are somewhat dangerous. Although there are life... More

We walked over the hill to the beach, took about 2hrs and was pretty steep in places. But well worth the walk. There is some drink avaliable at the beach, but make sure you take somee water for the walk over. There was heaps of wildlife on the trial including snakes. The sand is like flour.

The sand is so white it is like flour, everyone tells you to take your own drinks but there are beach vendors selling drinks and snacks

We were told this was the nicest beach on the island...and made the trek all the way there (with the help of a short boat trip). However, there are better beaches on the island. This beach was still nice but definitely not the nicest.

We loved that you could only get to this place by hiking -- was really paradise. Views to the left and right of the beach made the setting unbelievable

When looking into going to Ilha Grande, this was one of the main reasons for wanting to visit. We weren't disappointed! We decided not to trek from Vila do Abraao as it takes a few hours, so we got a boat, which took 45 minutes. It's worth mentioning that you do have to do quite an arduous 10-15 minutes walk... More
