You can hike to Lopes Mendes in about 2 1/2 hours from downtown, it's not too strenuous and actually a very fun hike (you stop by a couple of other beaches too). At the beach you can rent surfboards (R$ 40 per hour), bodyboards (R$ 15 per hour), paddleboards, etc and there are also a few stands to buy food.... More

Gorgeous beach to lie on and take a nicd long walk but it has dangerous currents and flags warned not to swim when I visited. Is fine to surf though. Boats from Abraao drop you to Mangues/Pousa beaches and you walk 20 minutes through forest to Lopes Mendes. You can swim at one of those beaches before getting boat back.

The journey from Abrao (the pier) is very nice! Going down and up in the middle of tropical rain forest is wonderful, the journey is ok. No need to worry, just have enough water with you. You can also take a boat near this beach as most people do. But that's not the experience:). The beach itself is very nice, not... More

Beautiful trail leading to a beautiful beach! If you are not into trails, you can also reach Lopes Mendes by boat.

We hiked to Lopes Mendes and it was well worth it! It was so peaceful and secluded! Thankfully the weather cooperated and we had a beautiful afternoon to enjoy the beach! The trail was not very well marked and probably took us much longer than it should have to get there though.

I took a trip from a local traveling agency in ilha grande and was taken to Lopes Mendes. Before you really get to the beach, there is a hike of 30 mins so wear some solid shoes. The beach itself is quite clean and quite but there are quite a lot of visitors so I think it is quite safe.... More

Not the easiest to get to, but you realise it's worth it when you find a beautiful stretch of white sand, crashing waves totally unspoilt

Ilha Grande is one of the best places in the world if you like to be in the nature. I was fortunate to have a boat and be able to go around the island from Abrahão to Ilha Jorge Greco and then to stop for a quick beer on the shores of Lopes Mendes. Lopes Mendes is beatiful from the... More

Definitely worth it if you go to Ilha Grande. If you have time to spare and you like to hike, I would recommend hike there instead of taking the boat, as the two hours walk through the rainforest is quite beautiful too, and makes to arrive much more rewarding
