If you can manage a few days to completely let yourself go on a tropical island then Ilha do Mel is the place to go. For R$17 one way the ferry offers daily service from Paranaguá. Takes about two hours for the crossing. You have a choice of many pousadas at the jungle towns of either Brasilia or Encantades. There... More

This island is really small. Really, really small. Still, it is chock full of pensions and pousadas and hostels. I went in the middle of the winter, the slow season, and even though it was off time I found it quite crowded. I cannot imagine what the summer is like. Must be a madhouse. I think that Encantadas, on the... More

Endless golden beaches. Beautiful place. Pity the accomodation is outdated. All the pousadas, hostels, etc are old , in bad shape, very poor service and is not value for money at all for what you get. Pity the Brazilian goverment doesn't keep an eye for what hotels are charching and the quality of the service in return.

Bout 90 minutes drive from Curitiba this is a good place to escape the city for a weekend of relaxation Big clean wide sandy beaches are very welcoming and I understand numbers are restricted in the summer months to stop it from becoming too crowded. Plenty of eating and drinking options available if you want to escape the sun. This... More

Such a good experience going to ilha do mel, the only inconvinience is the traffic you face to reach there. However, staying there is just amazing and relaxing experience :D

We loved staying on Ilha do Mel. It is very relaxing to be where there are no highways, cars, and all the distractions of modern life.We stayed at a pousada which is like a bed and breakfast. Ours was Enseadada Conchas with Lu and Carlos who treated us royally. Nice breakfast and helpful service and advice. Loved the fortress, lighthouse,... More

There are quiet beaches with vast expanses of white sand, and little hills for you to climb. Note: bring your own shade if you need it. Be careful about your timing with the tides on the walk between Encantadas and Nova Brasilia. i always felt safe on the island. One local claimed that it's because it's too hard for criminals... A small paradise island, with overpriced places where to stay and to eat. Food is actually bad (if you are lucky you get frozen fish brought from Curitiba down to the sea). But the beaches, and the rustic climate, the car-less experience, are unique.

Honey Island is an amazing getaway, beautiful beaches, with or without waves, great trekking through sub tropical jungle and up rocky headlands. It can take up to a day to get there from Curitiba, but the trip is also beautiful. There are plenty of shops and resturaunts but take cash with you, i didnt see an ATM. You can hire... More
