Ilha do Mel or Honey Island is a little piece of paradise situated on south of Brasil. It is an amazing place to go with family or friends, or couple... it is just amazing!! Many beaches all over the island, great food, polite and kind people, a huge sort of places to stay. I usually go to spend the day... More

Ilha do Mel is a very special place for me. I used to spend a lot of time at the Ilha in the 70s. In those days, the Ilha didn't have electricity nor running water, and not many tourist either, very few houses, and couple of tiny bars, for the native people of the Island. In my last visit to the... More

No cars, no traffic jams, no car horns or blaring stereos - bliss! Lots of great wild beaches and rugged walks. We stayed in the South which was quieter but you can catch a frequent boat up to Brasilia or there is a decent walk along the Eastern beaches and over some hills.

From the coast you take a ship, it is not small and is safe. After 30 min you reach the island, the crossing is usually calm. There is no car, no vehicle, you walk until your posada, if you need help you can hire someone with a wooden trolley. The beaches of white sand and clear water are amazing.

Visited twice and dream of returning. Many of the beaches were nearly empty and the water was very warm for swimming.

Neat experience to take the ferry over and stay overnight in a pousada near the beach. Took our 2 young children and had a great time. Accommodations were simple but sufficient. Beach and food was great.

Being someone who loves islands and has visited many of them, I took a real liking to Ilha do mel. It's affordable, relaxed and has everything you'd expect from an island town... great seafood, comfortable island lodging, and reggae ! However, this island has a lot of beach shopping and a lot of nice spots to hang out, including a... More

Simplicity is the key to this place. No cars. Just peace and some inexplicable calm over this place. Beautiful nature and really nice places to stay.

Well... maybe we were unlucky (and my title is perhaps a little dramatic) but we turned up on the island on a weekend but during the winter with no reservations expecting a quiet, relaxing stay in the low season. Our stay was anything but relaxing. We couldn't find anywhere that would let us only commit to one night and wasn't... More

We started the trip in the fog and rain on the ferry trip over. Well... the day improved rapidly! The fog and clouds went away, the sun came out and all was well with the world! Went for lunch at a place right by the ferry.. sorry don't remember the name, just had a sandwich and a beer and went... More
