Being someone who loves islands and has visited many of them, I took a real liking to Ilha do mel. It's affordable, relaxed and has everything you'd expect from an island town... great seafood, comfortable island lodging, and reggae ! However, this island has a lot of beach shopping and a lot of nice spots to hang out, including a... More

Simplicity is the key to this place. No cars. Just peace and some inexplicable calm over this place. Beautiful nature and really nice places to stay.

Well... maybe we were unlucky (and my title is perhaps a little dramatic) but we turned up on the island on a weekend but during the winter with no reservations expecting a quiet, relaxing stay in the low season. Our stay was anything but relaxing. We couldn't find anywhere that would let us only commit to one night and wasn't... More

We started the trip in the fog and rain on the ferry trip over. Well... the day improved rapidly! The fog and clouds went away, the sun came out and all was well with the world! Went for lunch at a place right by the ferry.. sorry don't remember the name, just had a sandwich and a beer and went... More

A rustic and lovely small island with white sand beaches (some with calm waters and some with plenty of waves). No cars and lots of easy to walk trails. Accommodation and restaurants tend to be pretty simplistic and expensive for what they are. My favourite side is Brasilia, I really like the area close to the lighthouse (you can climb... More

White sand beaches, no-car island, green areas, sea, sun, quiet... Make sure to see both sides of the island - one is more touristey, with restaurants and very calm sea, the other side is a bit wilder, with waves, but no cafés! It was an amazing week-end.

This island is simply beautiful. I was there two times (first in February this year). The island is amazing if you're looking for nice wide beaches or short walks. It's great place for surfing.

If you can manage a few days to completely let yourself go on a tropical island then Ilha do Mel is the place to go. For R$17 one way the ferry offers daily service from Paranaguá. Takes about two hours for the crossing. You have a choice of many pousadas at the jungle towns of either Brasilia or Encantades. There... More

This island is really small. Really, really small. Still, it is chock full of pensions and pousadas and hostels. I went in the middle of the winter, the slow season, and even though it was off time I found it quite crowded. I cannot imagine what the summer is like. Must be a madhouse. I think that Encantadas, on the... More

Endless golden beaches. Beautiful place. Pity the accomodation is outdated. All the pousadas, hostels, etc are old , in bad shape, very poor service and is not value for money at all for what you get. Pity the Brazilian goverment doesn't keep an eye for what hotels are charching and the quality of the service in return.
