Ashland was the highlight of this portion of our trip. It rests on the shore of Lake Superior in the northeast part of the state, south of Bayfield. We visited in June of 2012, electing to stay in Ashland (which I wholeheartedly recommend) when we booked the hotels for our midwest trip. When we arrived, I was in a rush... More

The many murals in Ashland give a fine review of the history of the area and its people. I suggest getting out of the car and using the helpful map to get right up to all of them. This will take a ct least an hour, but it is well worth it.

This was a must see for me after reading the reviews here...Ashland is a beautiful treasure right on Lake Superior and the Mural Walk did not disappoint....actually, my experience of this attraction was a mural driving tour, but simply pulling up to the murals did not detract from their beauty and awesomeness....the city needs to make sure these are NEVER... I cannot imagine how many hours went into creating these gorgeous murals! They were all within a few blocks of each other making it easy access.

Listed in the CAA tour book. Pick up a brochure at a travel stop for directions and locations as there are a few towns who have 'muraled' their history. A nice walk through a small town to see these murals that are very well done. Close to their waterfront which has been maintained for visitors. This was a lunch stop... More

Ashland is a great place to stroll and take a step into the past and see what it was like from the mid 1800's to the mid 1900's. The murals are representations of the people and times of the eras, historical happenings and featuring a backdrop of buildings and architecture some of which still stand. As you stroll you can... I absolutely Adored staying in Ashland, and the Mural Walk is an intriguing astounding way to begin to understand more of Ashland's people and history - The murals offer vignettes of what is most important to the wonderful people of this northern, Lake Superior based community - And I thoroughly enjoyed the Murals, as I toured and explored the rest... The murals are beautiful. We kept looking for a color picture book of the murals. Shop owners were all helpful and willing to listen to ideas and suggestions from tourists. This tells me that this town is serious about improving their town and services. We finally found a picture book but had to go to the historical society to buy... More

Take the time to see these murals done by 2 local artists. These are historical depictions of the community members and the history of the area. It really is beneficial to take time to looks up the descriptions of these murals prior to or during your tour. What a marvelous way to convey the history of the city and the... More

We were not expecting this but it was well done and interesting. The detail is very good. You will want to explore the downtown area to see all the murals. There are brochures available with maps and locations. Pick a nice sunny day.
