Spend a couple hours just walking around looking at the history of the area and climbing the tower to look at the views. We also used their snowshoes to walk around the property and really enjoyed the woods in the snow.

Nice tower views, gift shop, displays, as well as maps and information. There is a little theatre (which we didn't stop at) that plays films all day by request--nature & area related...would be a great spot on a rainy day! Also, an outdoor guided interpretive walking trail.

We stopped on our way out of Ashland, on the day the government reopened for service, and the center was open for business. The museum exhibits are very well done, interesting, and informative, covering wildlife, plants, mining, shipping, fishing, native cultures, geology. Be sure to go up in the tower to see the surrounding landscape, and the fabulous murals around... More

Thank you Kallred for your review of the Center. We were so happy to be open after the government shut down, and very glad to hear that you were able to visit on the first day. We hope that you'll stop back for a showing of Paddle to the Sea sometime soon! More

The Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center is always near the top of the list of things we do when visiting family in this area of Wisconsin. I have numerous souvenirs from the gift shop, have walked the full length of the outside trails, had the privilege of meeting the muralist Kelly Meredith who was painting last year, and the view... This FREE visitor's center has a wealth of information on many subjects and the history of the northern Wisconsin area. A self-guided tour walks you through the history from ancient times up to present day. There is a theater on-site to view films on subjects regarding history & such. The gift shop is cute & reasonably priced. There is a DNR... More

It held the interest of everyone in our group. Wish we would have had time to take one of the trails.

Thank you Finns2164 for the nice review! We are so happy you stopped in and we hope that you’ll have time to check out the trail system next time. The board walk is located behind the Visitor Center and only takes about 20 minutes. If you have a bit more time, the Aldo Leopold Stewardship trail is just across Cty... More

We had a quick visit stop to see what was new. We didn't like all the flies on the top floor. We didn't try out the trails as it was raining that day.

Thank you for visiting the Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center recently and taking the time to submit a review. It sounds like it was a rainy day, which is often our busiest since it is a dry place to hang out. We hope that you’ll stop back again and try out the board walk. We apologize for the pesky flies... The Northern Great Lakes Visitor Center sits back away from highway US 2. A couple of years ago we just drove by, but not this time and we were happy we stopped. Friendly staff were there to advise us. However the displays relating to anthropology, history, biology, geology, and the like, are well documented and self guided. As others have... More

Some visitor centers have a view, but I've never been to one that had a view from the top. You have to climb a series of steps to get up there, but it's worth it. The top has an outside balcony that goes all the way around (like a lighthouse). From the top you can see all of the visitor... More
