Lovely church. A staple of the latin-american baroque - roccoco. It has been recently renovated. Don't miss the museum located in the back and basement of the Church.

Not having traveled yet to Europe, this was my first experience with beautiful churches with masterpiece ceilings and amazing ornamentation. It is almost an overload to the senses, but a must see!

Lots of gold and history in this beautiful church. I have never seen statues made with real human hair! As a catholic the history of the church in the sanctuary and in the display area downstairs was fascinating. The rationale for the ambos and seating areas was also very interesting.

XVIII Century, a mark in the History of Brazil you will find the testemonies of Barroque Art, Mining Museum and History. Ouro Preto in this time had 100.000 inhabitants, Rio de Janeiro had 20.000! Pousada do Mondego is a authentic reference of this period, I recommend.

I dont think UNESCO takes any money and they don't maintain buildings or landscapes either. Your entrance fee does go towards this though. It is also perfectly reasonable not to take pictures in a place of worship. Having said all of that, enjoy the tranquility, the setting in the square and the works of art and the power of the... This is another example of Baroque decoration, and dare we say it, excess! However, the art is definitely on worth looking at.

a piece of art, independent of religions reasons it is to be adimed. Note that few churches from the many in Ouro Preto open to visitors, But the three main ones, Nossa Senhora do Pilar, São Francisco e Nossa Senhora do Carmo open from Tuesdays to Sundays

There is a fee to enter and you have to buy tickets in a nearby shop. I don't mind as long as it goes to UNESCO to help maintain the city and its attractions. Inside, it is not possible to take pictures even with phone without flash as you are actually being watched. The interior is very beautiful but a... More
