I dont think UNESCO takes any money and they don't maintain buildings or landscapes either. Your entrance fee does go towards this though. It is also perfectly reasonable not to take pictures in a place of worship. Having said all of that, enjoy the tranquility, the setting in the square and the works of art and the power of the... This is another example of Baroque decoration, and dare we say it, excess! However, the art is definitely on worth looking at.

a piece of art, independent of religions reasons it is to be adimed. Note that few churches from the many in Ouro Preto open to visitors, But the three main ones, Nossa Senhora do Pilar, São Francisco e Nossa Senhora do Carmo open from Tuesdays to Sundays

There is a fee to enter and you have to buy tickets in a nearby shop. I don't mind as long as it goes to UNESCO to help maintain the city and its attractions. Inside, it is not possible to take pictures even with phone without flash as you are actually being watched. The interior is very beautiful but a... More

Attractive location, tightly fitted into a lively square in almost medieval manner! Decorated inside with 400kg of gold leaf and quite beautiful; actually largely in good taste, which is unusual for religious demonstrations of wealth and prestige. Well worth a visit.

A 300 years old very well preserved church in Ouro Preto. Check out the visiting times, as it not always open. Worth a visit, beautiful golden interior.

This church shows the true lavishness of the gold rush era. It is quite incredibly ornate. We had a particularly good guide who explained about the history which I found fascinating. Really enjoyed my visit here.

It makes St Peter's in Rome look dull. There are at least 25 spectacular churches in this town but this has to be the best.

Ouro Preto is filled with Churches, but the best one, by far is Nossa Senhora do Pilar. It is in a great conservation condition, and it still has a lot of the details in gold it originally had. It is a masterpiece a everyone in town should stop by and check it out. At the backside of the church it... More
