Rather holy town and so was the square. It is unusual not to have a flat town square in Latin America, but this one was.

Ouro Preto is one of the most symbolical historic cities in Brazil. TIradentes was one of "Brazilian heroes" against the Portuguese domination and the Tiradentes square remains with the same looks and feel of the time when he was killed on it. Be prepared to walk up hills, since the square is on an upper part of the city, which... More

Beautiful backdrop for photos. A giant obelisk and the Museu da Inconfidiencia in the background. Great during festivals, but always gives a sense of history.

Beautiful historic square... Needs to be more pedestrian friendly. Almost got run over several times crossing the square with my family. ;-)

The plaza is made only to catch tourists. If you really want to know Ouro Preto, take a walk to the down streets. The only good thing i saw in the plaza was the museum, the rest, terrible when is weekends: bad traffic, no way to park your car, dirty and pee smells in the corners.

This large square is central to the city of Ouro Preto. Surrounded on all sides by shops selling gemstones, souvenirs, cachaça and with two fine bookends in the form of an excellent museum of minerology and the museum of the Inconfidençia this Praça is the place where all roads converge. Don't miss it.

The principal place of Ouro Preto, the Praça Tiradentes is sorrounded by the Inconfidence Museum and the older Administrative Building and Astronomic Observatory (Escola de Minas). The ancient principal street of Ouro Preto (and in some way still nowadays) ends on this square. It's the neuralgic place of the town.

This square is the center of Ouro Preto and is filled with restaurants, museums and shops galore. There are several nice gemstone shops on the square worth checking out.

Ouro Preto is a nice historic town, this is the main square and from here you reach most of the important sights in town. Do not miss the Oratory and the Minaralogy Museums one block away.

The square itself is nice, but more importantly it's the centre of everything. There's a few nice places around the square itself, such as cafés and restaurants and also a couple of the museum. Many other interesting places and shops are in and around this area as well so you're bound to pass through here during your stay. The time... More
