The church looks nice, it's quite unique. But it's pretty out of town, and really worth going that far.

The church is in a lovely setting by the lake and has significance for architects and people interested in the work of Oscar Niemeyer. It is small and almost waved shaped. The back of the church is tiled with religious scenes in blue and white tiles. If you are visiting the lake, then it's s worth a visit. If you... More

Quaint chapel for about 80 people but has paintings by Portinari, architecture by Niemayer, gardens by Burle Max, it was commissioned by Juscelino Kubit-check while he was mayor or BH (before becoming president of Brasil and building Brasilia). A must see. By the Pampulha lake, near the stadium Mineirao.

Completed in the early 40's, this little church summarizes Niemeyer's art: free-flowing concrete parabolic vaults contrasting with a 'cubist' bell-tower, traditional azulejos, attention to detail and perfect use of an ideal location by the lake. Superb!

A beautiful little church in one of the most loved spots for locals. Hike around the lake and see if you can spot the gator/condors/owls(two small owls live near the Rizvi school a bit of a trek away) or cross the street to visit the Ferris wheel and other rides.

Interesting modern architecture for what became a controversial addition to the Catholic churches in Pampulha. Right on the lake's edge provides a beatiful setting for this church. We were not able to get into the building but the outside was interesting and were able to see most of the interior through the front of the church which was mostly windows... More

Famous Church by Niemeyer... The church is definitely the must see monument in BH... A bit far, but Pampulha is a nice area(Minerao is nearby and Xapuri - the famous restaurant - as well)

Great architectural masterpiece. We went on Sunday afternoon, as we thought it would be open, but it was a pitty we couldnt go inside because it was closed. Yet, the building is amazing to watch from the outside, and so are the terrific views.

When the famous architect Oscar Niemeyer designed the St. Francis church near the lake he thought of the waves formed in the lake and wanted to mimic it right on the lake shore. It is just beautiful inside and out, The art is in every detail. There is a late mass at 7 pm on Tuesdays. You can ride the... More
