Went to see this out of respect for Niemeyer. Not disappointed, both externally and (more so) internally out of the ordinary, a special jewel. A bit expensive to get there by taxi, and almost impossible to get one to go back to town (the information desk helped us in the end to call one by phone). Try to get a... More

A little jewel by Oscar Niemeyer. It is located at the Pampulha architectural complex. Also near the Mineirão stadium. Worth to visit all these atractions on the same day.

Just at the shore of Pampulha's lake, this church has been ideated by one of the best architect in the world. Builded at the beginning of the "forties", you can see in this building the influence tha Le Corbusier. Extremely controversial for the building itself, being a church raised even more doubt inside the Catholich world. It has been consacrated... More

The bell tower needs a good sanding and repainting, but the entire exterior of the church is mosaic! I didn't realize until I was right up against it. Beautiful design and construction work. The art in the interior was fabulous (on canvas, in mural form and in metal). Well worth the R$2 to enter. There is an exhibit as well... More

The St. Francis of Assisi Church is a landmark more for its historical background than for what it is today. It needs some repairs and also explore better its potential as some of the tiles are falling and the area seems rather abandoned. But as it was made by one renowned architect the visit is still worth.

This is one of the biggest churchs in Belo Horizonte, remember not to take picture with flash and stay quiet, show respect to other people. The church is very nice, beautiful architecture

A Must-see if you go touristing in Belo Horizonte. Beautiful church, built by Niemeyer. Serves as an excellent example of his post-modernist influential architecture style. The Portuguese azulejo that also covers the whole church serves as an important aspect of Brazilian culture.

I had heard so much about this little Chapel by the Lake that I had to make a special trip to visit. I was in Belo Horizonte and attempted to hail a taxi for the 20 minute trip. I could not find a free taxi anywhere, they were all busy and driving by me at a fast rate of speed.... More
