Hire a bike and do a lap of the lake (18km) to see the views and buildings around its edge. Theres a hire shop next to the petrol station on the south side of the dam (R$10/hour). Can be hard to find a nice place to eat (other than hot dogs/popcorn!) especially in the week. Try 'Juscelino's on the lakefront... More

One of my favorite places in. Belo Horizonte. Make us travel in time while visiting the muneums, park, church and the lagoon. So many memories, plans and strategies... I love to spend my weekends therewith my kids and husband.

Went to see the Mineirao, pampulha church, and went for a drive around the lake, unexpectedly saw a bunch of capivaras in one of the sides of the lake.

Pampulha Little Church and the Ballroom House are icons of Oscar's architeture. Worth spending a morning or an afternoon visiting them. They are around the Pampulha lake, a very pleasant place, and not far from Estádio Magalhães Pinto, the palace of soccer, that was completely revamped for the 2014 world cup.

The church needs some repair work, but otherwise it is worth seeing, even by paying the small entrance fee.

The Pampulha architectural complex consists of various designs of renowned architect Oscar Niemeyer. Unfortunately, the projects are uncharacterized, poorly maintained, some in poor condition, with no security and no tourist infrastructure.

The "Lagoa da Pampulha", or Pampulha Lake, is the largest artificial lake in Belo Horizonte which is a place to spend the day. There you can see the iconic complex from brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer, with the Art Museum and its exhibitions, the "Casa do Baile", or Ball House, and the waved platform towards the entrance and the beautiful "Igreja... Construction everywhere, bad traffic and not much to do. Wait until the World Cup before you visit it.

This is Niemeyer's first major project, commissioned in the 1940's by Belo Horizonte's mayor Juscelino Kubitscheck (who later became Brazil's president and then commissioned Niemeyer to design Brasilia).
