We stopped at the reserve on our way from Bonito to the Recanto Ecologico Rio da Prata. There is a welcoming visitors centre where friendly staff greet people in Portugese, Spanish and English. Drinks are available here though only water may be consumed on the tour (something about sugary drinks attracting bees. I wasn't convinced but respected the rule nonetheless).... More

The Buraco das Araras is a natural hole that is about 100 meters deep and 500 meters in diameter. It is possible to have a panoramic view of its inner, where red and blue macaws return in the end of the day. It is an amazing place!

1 hour walk around a large sinkhole, that hosts about 100 macaws. There are 2 viewing platforms one after 20 minutes into the trip, then one after 40 minutes, but with the naked eye the macaws are not visible. The guide has binoculars which one can use and they help seeing the macaws better. When we went it was very... More

Excellent tour for couples and family with childrens. The tour takes about 45 minutes where you can see lots of birds and, if you´re lucky, aligators and snakes. Well trained staff and great facilities!

We were there in September - mating season - so there were plenty of macaws to see. We did this on our way to the Rio da Prata tour - it was a totally unexpected hit of our trip! It is expensive, and it's not a long activity (you basically walk around the entire area - with two spots to... More

We went to Buraco das Araras without knowing what to expect. Well, we were pleasantly surprised. Like most other tours in Bonito (if not all), we had to book it before hand and weren't sure whether to go in the morning or afternoon (had read mixed reviews). We decided to go in the morning and it was a good idea... More

I haven't been to Papua New Guinea, so maybe somewhere there are more beautiful birds than these, but I would be surprised. If at all possible, get a private guide to take you can take more time than the standard staff tour which takes about 45 minutes. I spent hours and went back on four consecutive days because these birds... More

We were there at 7a.m. and saw a lot of araras, some of them quite close to us. It was a special place. From what I read and spoke with the guide, it's better to be there early in the morning. The second best just is before sunset.

you can go to buraco das Araras before or after the rio da Prata activity. they're very close together and about a 1hour trip from the city. this activity is only for those who like to know more about wild life and nature. in October you can see the birds all day long because they are in the reproduction period.... Great tour guide, who taught us much about the wildlife - not just about the macau's. English speaking too.
