Really enjoyed our visit to this museum. I thought it might be similar to the one in Aomori but it has more cultural activities such as playing taiko drums, a traditional Japanese string instrument and seeing the spinning tops. Not much English but the staff are very nice and try to explain things to you. Only bad point compared to... More

It's hard to characterize this place. It's not a museum, nor is it an amusement park. It's an experience. Visitors begin with a little explanation of neputa, and how they differ from the nebuta of neighboring Aomori. Then they are treated to a bit of the music and drumming of the festival. After that visitors are free to wander through... More

Walking through the Hirosaki Park I could hear drumming and wondered where it was coming from. After literally stumbling upon this attraction after walking through the historical houses found out where the drumming was coming from. We knew nothing about this place at all, but there was 2 large tourist buses outside and thought lets just have a look. Only... More

I was unsure about this place, but actually really enjoyed it. It consists of: * A talk about the Tsugaru Neputa festival, given in a room containing some example floats (obviously more interesting if you can understand the Japanese!). * An opportunity to paint a lantern thing for the festival (at a fairly steep price). * A little shop/display area... A good tourist centre to see the floats and highly decorated lanterns, hear traditional music, watch local artisans at work, buy souvenirs and taste some of the tasty local food. The centre is beside the bus & car park for Hirosaki Castle & Park. As we were there during the week in which the cherry blossoms were in full bloom,... More

The first main hall of the "village" is the best part, a room filled with massive, intricately decorated floats from the Hirosaki Neputa festival. Performers perform on the giant drums and play a flute, just like during the real festival. They even let any visitors who want to try their hand at the drums try. The other nice part of... More
