It's true -- grapes don't grow in ugly places!

We visited this winery along with two others. The facility is very nice and the staff was friendly; however, I can honestly say that neither my wife or I found one wine we wanted in our home. The wines didn't have much depth but were drinkable. I was really looking for at least one wine to purchase that I considered... More

Wines all tasted watery; not super exciting with no complexity. They have some "old vines" (old for Virginia which are from the 70s) but the wine was not complex.

Me and 3 other women went here for a wine tasting and it was wonderful! The view is gorgeous, the wine was delicious and the lady helping us with the tasting was great!! I didn't think I liked red wine, but apparently I've never had good red wine until I went to Afton Mountain Vineyard!! I can't wait to go... More

"Grapes don't grow in ugly places" -- perfect tag line for this winery. Incredible setting atop Afton Mountain. Large pavilion area for groups or perhaps special events; they also have a large open outdoor area overlooking the vines. Decent wines, friendly staff. Would be the perfect spot for a weekend picnic.

Another couple recommended this vineyard to us. It was mother daughter weekend in Charlottesville. I was originally disappointed that there was only one white to taste but it was amazing! As were the other tastes. I'm normally not a reds fan. In any event we purchased a couple of bottles, bought a glass of the yummy white and sat on... More

I was with a group of 9 other 30-somethings (couples) enjoying a Saturday in Central VA wine country. We had heard great things about Afton Mountain's wine, but weren't originally sure we would have time to make it (based on the time we planned to head out of town). When we realized we had made great travel time arriving, we... More

I was out walking in Afton and dropped in for a break. A small place, but the wine was good, and I was impressed that they only sell what they produce on site from their own grapes. Enjoyed a taste of their Chablis and had an enjoyable conversation with the gal at the counter. This would be a nice place... More

Several wines were sold out or not part of the tasting. Long narrow driveway was a challenge on a busy Sunday.

We had some time before our dinner reservations in Charlottesville and along the way we stopped at the vineyard. Even in late fall the area is beautiful as you drive down a curvy road to get to the vineyard. The staff was lovely and informative about our wine tasting and we purchased a few bottles to take home. I am... More

All the wines were amazing (and I am not usually a fan of reds) but the bottles averaged around $30, which is more than I typically spend. The view was pleasant - I would visit again!
