What a treat! We were visiting family nearby and they suggested we go to the Barter. We made reservations on the phone, and the lady was very accommodating, taking my perfume allergy into account. There was ample street parking nearby and the area is lovely. The performance we viewed was very well done. My husband noted that the sound system... More

Yesterday my wife and I saw and experienced "Shake, Rattle, & Roll" at the Barter Theatre in Abingdon. It proved to be a fine and thoroughly enjoyable tribute to Elvis Presley. Scot Bruce brought tons of energy and showmanship to the virtually sold out audience and based on audience participation, applause and standing ovation, it seems he gave it his... More

The afternoon trips to Barter Theatre are always great fun! We like to see comedies and the ones we've seen have been really good. Southern Fried Nuptials was both funny and well acted!

We have a second home in this area. Friend and family love it when we treat them to an evening or matinee at the Barter Theatre. The Theatre not only has a rich history, it produces wonderful entertainment....local and popular wanted artists pass through. We have taken our grands several times to their children's programs..and have made many wonderful memories... More

For several months, we'd made plans to return to the Barter, this time to see The Blind Man's Tale. If you've not seen it, I won't spoil it for you, but let me just say that the storyteller and musicians are some of the finest we've ever heard! I'm still hearing the music in my head two weeks later! Without... More

The Barter Theatre IS the STATE THEATRE of Virginia. This is professional theatre staffed by members of the Actor's Equity Association and associated with the League of Resident Theatres... compare to Flat Rock Playhouse (NC). These venues feature performances done by REAL career actors. This is Not ALL local amateurs playing at theatre although occasionally there are children or local... More

We recently had a group at the Barter Theatre to see "Mary Poppins." It was the highlight of our trip. Everyone from the sales staff to the ushers were excellent. The show itself was outstanding. We have been to the theatre several times, and i don't think there is a bad seat in the house. The Barter is definitely on... More

I've been to two shows at the Barter, A Blind Man's Tale (08/2015) and Southern-Fried Nuptials (08/2015). Both shows were very endearing. SFN was very cute and had a perfect balance of laughing at and laughing with southern culture. A Blind Man's Tale is truly an unforgettable experience. Even if you aren't a fan of bluegrass/folksy music, it's impossible to... More

I returned to the Barter for the first time in many years for a Stage II production. It was a 1-woman show, "Spit Like a Big Girl," that was on a short run, and it was fantastic. I have found all Barter productions to be excellent. Highly recommended.
