Just dropped in

Was in town and had to stop, IF THIS is not the coolest spot in Austin I'd be VERY hard pressed to find it.

It was our first visit to Austin and we were after bar-b-q and music. We were referred to Saxon Pub by a couple of locals. I had read about it on TA, so it was already on my list. We visited on a Sunday evening, paid a small cover, walked in and wondered what we had gotten ourselves into. This... More

I love this bar - wait, Toby Keith already said that. But, I do love this bar - a total little dive bar that has been in Austin forever. Many local musicians play here regularly. My all time favorite: The John Gaar Band, and my second fav: Patrice Pike. John plays free on Sunday nights from 5:30 - 7.

Great place to chill and catch some great Austin Music. Went here on a recommendation at a hotel and the band was great as well as the pub.

Best live music in Austin. Lots of fun and good drinks. Friendly staff Always a very good show and you never know who might show up, like Bonnie Raitt or Willie Nelson.

Went here on a recommendation. Glad I did. Great place for live local music. Service good. People very friendly. If The Whiskey Sisters are playing, you'll get a real treat.

On a local recommendation, went out on a Monday night to hear Bob Schneider and the place was packed (at $10 a head) for an 8-10:30 show. The music was eceletic and the crowd was diverse (guessing average age was 35 or so, I'm 56). Service was outstanding and people were friendly. We're really glad we went....a good time was... More

Super place to hear great music! They have an early show and a late show. When we were in Austin for a week, we went here 3 or 4 times --- musicians were awesome.

A great live music seen. It was a low key night and the music was great. Good prices for drinks. The bartender was meticulously cleaning everything in sight. Didn't have food. Worth a visit if you are looking for good live music.

Very loud, dark & hot but it's an Austin institution so it's totally bearable. There is enough room to back away from the crowd in a little better lit area.
