A fun little place to take young children to see and hear the peacocks. The loud calls are pretty impressive and the gardens are pretty & peaceful.

Nice family friendly park with walking trails and colorful peacocks roaming the premises. We enjoyed stopping here on our trip to Austin.

If you're afraid of large birds, this is not the place for you. I find peacocks gorgeous, but their calls can be a little loud and they are definitely not concerned about the people coming in and out of this little gem. We originally found this place for professional family photos, and then returned to do our daughter's first year... More

Given the size of Austin, with its abundant bustle and traffic noise, it is refreshing to find a quiet respite within the city limits. This preserve seems to be under-utilized, which makes it an especially restful place to spend some time. There are several well-marked walking trails (including loops); they aren't particularly demanding, and they offer some very nice views.... More

Mayfield Park is about 10 minutes from downtown Austin, but it is a world removed. The park is probably most famous for the peacocks and the lotus ponds, and rightfully so. The peacocks are fun to watch and very photogenic, and the ponds reinforce the calming Zen mood that permeates the park. An under-appreciated facet of the park is the... More

From the lookout in Austin, watch for the peacock crossing sign on Old Bull Creek Road, next to the Austin Museum of Art. The Mayfield Cottage is an old mansion, now a public building surrounded by these elegant birds. This corner of Austin was a unique opportunity to see these birds in a normal habitat.

This is a great park to visit, especially if you are already visiting Mount Bonnel. There are nice trails to walk and explore, a house with a couple of ponds, and picnic benches. Parking is some what limited.

Mayfield Park was our favorite spot in the Spring of 1978, when we decided to get married next to the Lotus pond. A few friends joined us for an impromptu wedding. We found a Unity Minister who agreed to do the ceremony on short notice. Mr. Rodriguez, the gardener, opened the parking lot on Sunday, his day off (after we... More

We saw this park on our way down from mt bonell, and the peacocks immediately caught our attention. It is a quiet place with lots of peacocks, a few ponds, and lots of vegetation. I wouldnt go out of my way tocsee it, but to avoid traffic, we spent a half hour or so here. It was ok!

Although I normally prefer dog-friendly parks, Mayfield is the exception. Here, you can relax in the gardens surrounded by peacocks who have called the breathtaking estate grounds home. A charming cottage is available for events, but the real draw to this park is the serenity and beauty of the gardens. Small ponds dot the pathway, and a great deal of... More
