Dirty Sixth lives up to its name. Most of the bars seem to be the disgusting, shoes-stick-to-the-floor type of places frequented by drunk college students. Went with some work colleagues to a place called The Chuggin' Monkey on a Tuesday night, and the majority of customers were other dudes in suits doing the same kind of character-less dive-bar tourism that... Touted as Bourbon St of Austin, it would be better labeled as the redneck second cousin no one wants to claim. There are a couple nice restaurants and bars, and at least one nice shop, but there are way more empty buildings, dives, and panhandlers. Second street is much nicer unless you are a college student looking for cheap beer... More

All kinds of neat new bars and music venues and art galleries have taken the east side of 6th street to a whole new level over the past couple years. Not a good night out with your children though...! these cool groovy spots are for the grown ups.

Straight party mode. Saturday late night and the party was on... HARD. I guess late Friday and Saturday are the nights to be here. I've come here at non peak times and found it quite disappointing... this was my first late weekend evening here and it was crazy. Nothing refined here, nothing pretty. It's bars, and bars, and partyers and... More

Went there on a Tuesday night as that was the only night we were visiting. I thought there might be musicians. instead, a panhandler cursed my husband and I out for not giving him money. All we had done was walk by him. It was scary. He could've gotten violent with the way he was yelling expletives at us for... More

East 6th street is east of Congress- so I will write this in two parts. E 6th (west of 35): 1 STAR: If you love fighting your way through crowds filled with young men in button up shirts, and young women in pouffy super short dresses... this is the place for you. If you have been known to yell "shots!shots!shots!shots!"... More

Even though we are a young couple, we found the "free spirit" atmosphere and all those bars lined up to be less than savory. Too many lights, too many exposed boobs, and too little space to move down the sidewalk. Even in the middle of the day! I would hate to go there at night when I'm sure it's crazier!

It has the feel of a bourbon street. I think i am old enough i need to gear up for that type of energy and crowd.

This is a must see street to do and see in your lifetime. The place comes alive at night and I am sure it boasts the most pubs in a square mile all with there own live music

Keep Austin weird is what 6th Street is all about. For safety reasons, the street is shutdown during big events. There are many great places to eat and drink. On 6th Street. Comedy clubs and dancing canbe enjoyed too.
