This whole area allows the visitor to fully experience and get a great taste of Austin - literally and figuratively. Literally because the place is crammed with local restaurants (I recommend South Congress Cafe and The Magnolia) and other food related businesses such as food trucks and trailers (Coat and Thai, there's a cupcake place also, etc.), all of which... it's a bit of a walk from downtown till you actually get to the good stores and restaurants but it's worth the trip. everything has such personality and feels so different. we passed by food trucks, cute outdoor restaurants and shops, even an outdoor pet adoption event. it's the unique feel of hipster brooklyn with tons of texas charm. Parking is "tragic" to say the least. But well worth the experience. Great buys, friendly vendors. More

Good mix of shops, especially if you're into second-hand stores with a variety of goods (clothing & antiques.) Great people watching, and the food trailers and restaurants have a good variety of food. (Hey, Cupcake!) The line at Hop Doddy's is usually bearable on Sunday afternoons. More

I like this part of Austin and it's part of what makes the city unique. I will have to say, though, that sometimes it's too crowded and now it seems it's just too trendy, if u get my drift. That aside, there are funky shops and lots of choices when it comes to food. More

This neighborhood, besides being unique and full of fun shops and great food, describes Austin as a whole. Quirky and organic stores have a lot of fun things to buy or even just look at. The food trucks are some of the best in the city and they make it easy by lining up in one spot, but it's definitely... More

Great to stroll around, window shop, try on cowboy boots at Allens, lunch at food trucks, several good dining stops. For good Italian there is Vespaio & Enoteca. Same owner and side by side; first is high end, second a bistro. Been to both and great. His Enoteca later at night for an espresso and a cannoli after dinner. More

It is getting harder and harder to find those times that the crowds are not clogging things up, but when you do, the place is understandably fun and pleasant. Shopping, food, walking...go for it. More

Very cool area to walk around, grab a drink, eat some food, people watch, etc. Had a good meal at Vespaio (the less expensive side), dessert at one of the food trucks, and then an after dinner wine at the courtyard of the San Jose hotel, which is an amazingly tranquil spot. More
