Great place to people watch. You will see everything from hipsters to grandmas walking down the South Congress streets. For delicious east coast pizza try Whole Slice Pizza, for Tex-Mex Guerro's across the street from Whole Slice is a great place and where President Clinton frequents. SOCO is very crowded on Friday and Saturday evenings.

Great place to walk around, people watch, grab a bite, shop. Parking gets tricky. If you're going to eat at Hopdoddy's they have free parking garage behind restaurant. Be sure to duck into Big Top Candyshop to satisfy your sweet tooth with old time favorites and an assortment of truffles.

Scary to watch batches of younger generation graduating Prolific in Alcoholism. Take Alcohol out - very little to see or enjoy - certainly not a family environment,

Not so touristy as 6th St, some good low cost dinner options for the family. Plenty of options, and just a short walk down Congress to the Bat Bridge. We got a parking spot easily, but I could see others waiting for a while.

This is the area to park at one end and walk through visit the shops and eateries. Turnaround and do the same on the other side. Many great places to sample their eats, drinks and unique shops. Do not forget to arrive at the bridge just before sundown and get a view of the bats leaving for the night.

Lots of fun shops, although we were hoping for more stores that featured local art or the like. A lot of "vintage" shops, which are NOT resale. Some quirky shops selling fun stuff.

Loads of artists , taco and mexican and barbeque places abound here. If you are looking for some good food, loud music and a fun evening then come here. The tacos are actually very good and the barbeque(really just beef( is also excellent and you will have a good time and not break the bank. The people are younger here... More

One of the hot spots if you are visiting Austin. It is where the "eclectic" is happening. The little shops are great to go in! They are closed on Mondays and they open at 11 the rest of the week. So, don't go before 11. There are food trailers around, Amy's Ice Cream. All kinds of neat shops to browse... More

Though So Congress isn't what it used to be (before they started building the ugly hotel), it's still a great place to hang and hear live music! I personally love Guero's outdoor venu - such a fun place to hear live music, sip a cold one, and just relax! Also, HopDoddy's is still my favorite burger joint, and the one... More

Travel south on Congress from the Capitol and you will enter the famous SoCo area of Austin. The unique shops have some of the best shopping. There are unique bars and eateries that make this place special. We went to Texas National Outfitters and saw the live music and tried on amazing boots. Highly recommended.
