Go to the movies, have a comfy seat and desk for your food and drink. And the food, wine, beer, you can order is really delicious. I love this place. The movie was wonderful, one of a kind..very special. Go go go!

Would I travel from the suburbs to go to this downtown theatre? Probably not with the other options in town for the dining in theatre experience. But since i work downtown it can be a great way to hang out and avoid the traffic rush. Theatre I was in was small (compared to those mega theatres out in the 'burbs)... More

Fabulous theatre in downtown Austin--showing independent films with a complete bar, cafe, and lounge. Large seats in theatre, very comfortable, wonderful experience.

Since a few years of Austin growth, density has gone up and quality in Austin has down, also the typical and highly coveted Austin life-style has died out. Violet Crown maintains Austin as it was known for, but at a higher quality. It display the good movies, the artsy ones, hence you get a liberal and brainy crowd, hanging out... More

Tiny little theatre with overpriced tickets, drinks, and concessions. Chairs in the theatre itself were uncomfortable, and the theatre was a small concrete box in which you can hear EVERYTHING that everyone else is doing/saying. Just go to a regular movie theatre and save yourself the headache and the cash.

The problem with this place is that you'll never want to attend any other cinema again! Reservations are easy online, your seat is reserved, and there's time to stop off afterwards for a bite nearby before your parking expires. Your ticket is validated at the cashier as you pick up tickets. The little bar up front offers goodies to take... More

I too made the mistake of wandering in for my first movie here, only to learn that all seats were pre-ordered online in advance. Wah! This is because the theaters are so small and intimate. I was still intrigued so learned to order on their website beforehand. Now it's my favorite theater to meet friends, have a good time, some... More

A friend and I came to watch a movie at 6:30, and had not purchased tickets online beforehand…our mistake…only one seat left. Ok, so we sat in the VC lobby trying to decide what do to…then the lady who was working the ticket counter came over and said someone had turned in their ticket so there were two seats left... More

Violet Crown Cinema plays "art movies" in a classy, modern setting in a popular downtown Austin street scene. Reserved seating and free parking in the building make it easy to have an outstanding "urban experience." It's nice to enjoy wine, food and snacks before or after the movie, in the theater lobby/cafe as well.

I like art films and here you have a nice combination of food - real food, not preservative ridden pre packaged high salt snacks. No, real food such as salads and sandwiches and even cake balls. Convenient parking in a place where there usually isnt any. Comfortable seating too. Sometimes their movie choices are really odd even for art cinema.... More
