South Congress is an eclectic, light hearted, part of Austin. Lacking the hustle and bustle of 6th Street and the "Afternoon" atmosphere it is a fun way to walk around and enjoy old Austin attractions and good food and drink. There are enough eateries and bars to keep you smiling and plenty of shopping. We went on Valentines Day and... More

I can't understand why no one told us about this street when we asked them we were heading to Austin. Everyone just mentioned 6th Street. We just happened to find it on our own while looking for Allen's Boots. Great selection of stores and places to eat--bars--food trailers.

Great eats, including food truck food. Very cute shops, from weird to artsy to very trendy. Lots of good people watching, and some musicians also, of course. You can pet some puppies at the Animal Shelter booths, too, which always makes my day!

The title says it all. Restaurants, music, shops, food and food trucks, but expensive lodging. One definitely wants to spend time on So. Congress, but perhaps find a more moderately priced accommodation.

We spent a Sunday afternoon in Austin and it was a lot of fun. This is a vibrant, busy, eclectic part of the city. Lots of shops to browse through, lots of places to eat - from fine dining to food trucks - and lots of entertainment. This is a good place to people watch and there are many antique... More

If you are already here (because you want to view the bats), you can spend some time strolling down the street. But don't go out of your way. The stores and bars/ restaurants are spread out over several blocks, and nothing special.

You never know what's going to happen on S. Congress! The parking is a little weird, but we found many great shops and small restaurants.

A stroll along this area is sure to keep you busy for a couple of hours. Lots of visual delights and food trailers to sample from.

Nothing but hipsters and hippies. The stores are mostly hot, with no AC and are basically overpriced thrift stores.
