Between the bohemian shops (you gotta go to the Lucy in Disguise costume shop), the live music venues (the continental club is world famous), the trailer eateries and more upscale restaurants, So-co, as the locals call it is the ultimate austin experience. And if the season is right (March-November), you can top it off by going down to the south... More

If you like individual shops selling vintage, second hand, new, novelties, great food and just weird stuff you will love South Congress. Make sure you visit Allen's boots, the candy store, Monkey do and all the other interesting shops plus have a slice of pizza at Home Slice Pizza and pop into the Continental Club around 6.30 for great music... Shopping along SoCo is funky and unusual. We did not know what to expect, but went in many of the shops even though they didn't look like our usual types. We had a great time just looking. Everyone was friendly. We went back for supper at HopDaddys (which was yummy!) We spent about 2-3 hours milling around the area looking... More

lots of shops with a variety of local art and handmade goods. Stores with home goods, antiques, shoes, clothing, books, music, and art. Cafes and restaurants too. Street parking is available and there is a bus stop as well.

Strolling along Congress Avenue is a lot of fun! There are so many different shops to browse and lots of restaurants to choose from. It is usually crowded, but has a festive vibe. You can spend several hours just hanging out along SoCo. Wear comfortable shoes and walk to the Congress Avenue Bridge (Bat Bridge). Wherever you are long Congress... More

On Saturday we attempted to visit one particular store on the SoCo strip but the crowds were too dense and we were not able to locate parking. Plenty to do in Austin so we carried on with the idea of returning on Sunday. It was a good call as the crowds, although still heavy, had thinned enough for us to... More

Spent four days in Austin staying on South Congress Avenue. After reading about this place being the hub of trendyness in Texas I was expecting more. It may be wild, bohemian and alternative by the highly conservative US standards by to a European it seems pretty tame. All of the bars expect you to eat too, the live music ranged... More

Walk, browse, take it all in. Everyone is super friendly and helpful. Some great finds, and if you want cowboy boots Allen's probably has what you want.

While in SoCo check out Gemma Love's Authentic Jamaican food truck. Food is GREAT. Area is full of restaurants but her food is the real Jamaican food
