This being our first time, we enjoyed visiting the shops and eateries on South Congress (SoCo). We heard about this place from other travelers. Changed a lot over the years. Not exactly bargain hunting, now that it's popular with locals and tourists. However, it's pretty interesting and a must-see for first-timers, especially those into vintage and collectibles.

This area of town is full of stores and restaurants. The stores are mainly funky - costume shops, mexican art, some hipster spots, latest fashion of the same... Guerro's Mexican restaurant is a place to try for good Tex-Mex food. Austin Home Slice pizza is also very good. If you want something pricier try Perla's for seafood. Vespaio for Italian.... More

A lot to see, buy and eat. Literally. everything is a mom and pop shop or eatery. Parking may be difficult unless you go to a pay parking lot which can be expensive for some. Austin is one of the few Texas cities that is focused on getting around by foot. So be mindful of pedestrians. I got a lot... More

We always take friends and visitors to Soco. The people watching and variety of shops, food, and sights cannot be beat. We hear that stars frequent this area, but we haven't come across any. This is AUSTIN!

Loved the South Congress Avenue district. Eclectic stores, great restaurants, live music, street performers, ice cream, and plenty of places to get an adult beverage. What is not to like?

From great eateries, shops and hotels, this is where you go to see locals and tourists observe each other. Locals live here, tourists come here, both mingle here,to see how the other half lives. You can come here most weekends, and just browse shops, eat some great food, and just be part of the community. No judgements, no hassles, no... More

Tons of shops with a wide array of goods, many restaurants, and plenty of mid-day parking, if you don't mind a walk.

What a great area. From the unique shops to cowboy boots shops (couldn't escape without buying any), great restaurants with affordable prices and happy hour, you'll spend the whole day easily. Cap off the day with a live music show at the Continental Club. And walk the half mile to a popular Austin mural for a great photo op.

Make this your lunch, shopping and break location. So many options, even if you don't want boots, the staff at Allens Boots are very helpful and it is fun! Teenagers loved the boutique shops, younger kids loved the candy and game stores, Hubby/I loved the walking around, window shopping and lunch at Doc's.
