Going on the sunset cruise with Capital Cruises is the way to see the bats leave the Congress Bridge. Before the bats came out, Jay, our tour guide, took us along the Lady Bird Lake and gave us some history of the buildings we were seeing, the beautification of the lake, and some fun facts about things we were seeing.... This tour is a great way to see the city from the lake, especially if the weather is nice. Our tourguide Jay took us down Lake Lady Bird and pointed out some sights and gave the history of a lot of the buildings and bridges. Then we looped back to watch the bats come out at dusk. Jay knew a... More

Went on the bat cruise 3/14/15. Be sure to arrive early to get your choice of boats. Best to sit in the boat that has a cover to avoid getting bat poop/pee on you. The guide was friendly and informative. It was a nice boat ride, and best way to get good photos of the bats coming out from under... More

We stopped at the Austin Visitor center early in the day for some ideas of things to do while visiting Austin. We knew we wanted to see the bats. We asked the best way to see them and she recommended the cruise. The reason being: the bats are wild animals so they are not on a set schedule, they may... More

If you want to see the famous bats, take the boat tour. Before the bats emerge, you take a little tour around the lake. Our captain, Georgia, was funny and entertained us with one-liners, along with telling us the history of the lake and Austin in general. She was very knowledgeable about the bats. We talked to a couple people... More

We were part of a private cruise for a wedding rehearsal dinner. The staff was above reproach! From just boarding to making the announcement for everyone that was inside and wanted to see the bats to go upstairs, the staff made sure everyone had a good time. Luckily, there were some smaller cruise boats under the Congress St. bridge shinning... More

We took the cruise on October 5th. After two hours we saw about 20 to 25 bats hovering under the bridge. I would advise people to reconsider booking tours late in the fall because most of the bats have migrated. In the summer months even if only a fraction of the bats come out to feed there will be something... More

We took the bat boat tour on a late September Sunday evening with our family, ranging in age from 15 to 67. We were able to sit at the very front of the uncovered boat for an amazing view of both the city lights of Austin and the million plus bats leaving Congress St. bridge. Our tour guide was very... My wife and I took a bat cruise on a Friday evening in late September. We heard the bats did not come out every day that week, so we were a little concerned. No problem that Friday evening, because over 1 million bats came out of the Congress St Bridge and put on a great show. The cruise was nice,... More

Our cruise captain was terrific giving us a great background on the bats and their habitat. She took care to make sure we had a good vantage point and also see the city lights and sunset. I highly recommend this perspective versus looking down from the bridge... a much better view!
